The Everclear album has 4 songs that I have on heavy rotation and the rest of the album is good as well.

A single Echo device is pretty limiting. If I have one in my bedroom and one in the kitchen, I need to pay twice? They should be able to limit it by ip address or something.

So then you would get the $8 a month plan to use both Echoes....however...I feel certain that would be listen to only one device at a time....hence the introduction of the Family plan, so you could listen to music on one device, and someone else could listen to different music on another device.

At least with Prime Music, that's how it works....only one device can stream at a time, even though it's available on multiple devices.

I'm curious to see if there will be a Prime Member discount on the Family plan.

You're correct; only one device can stream at a time for the Echo, Prime, and Individual plans. The Family plan will allow up to 6 different devices to stream simultaneously.

I was surprised that they didn't offer a Prime discount for the Family plan. Maybe they'll change their minds and do so once that plan is released.

I don't remember coming across a free piece by Brahms in the short time that I've discovered several websites with free classical music and started making a point to post them as free pieces came up at them. But, today's freebie from YourClassical is a Brahms piece.

It's Piano Quartet No. 1: IV. Rondo Alla Zingarese, and it's from the SWR Klassik album (that's a new thing, too, I think. Most, if not all, of the freebies from YourClassical have been Naxos-published albums), BRAHMS, J.: Symphonies Nos. 1-4 / Piano Concerto No. 1 / Double Concerto (Michael Gielen Edition, Vol. 3 (1989-2005)). It apparently is still supplied by Naxos, though; I'm guessing that Naxos is a reseller for SWR Klassik. Find out more about the album, anyway, at this webpage.

Incidentally, I've started making a point to give the name of the album that a free piece comes from, because it occurred to me that some MobileReader might like a free piece so much that he or she wants to buy the whole album. I wonder if that might not be part of the motivation of the classical music publishers that supply the free pieces. Of course, there may be a good amount of altruism involved, too, I'm not denying that.

This week's free piece is The Banks of Green Willow, by George Butterworth.

The name Butterworth usually is not one of the first that comes to people's minds when they are asked to name classical composers. I'm not sure that I heard of him until today. But the music of this piece, which I'm listening to at this moment, is pleasant. Butterworth is a more recent classical composer than most that we hear about, so maybe that explains, in part, Butterworth's comparative lack of recognition and respect.

This week's free download is George Butterworth's The Banks of Green Willow. Written in 1913, the work was inspired by two folk song melodies Butterworth collected in Sussex in 1907: The banks of Green Willow and Green Bushes.

This track comes from a recent recording of works by Butterworth by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, directed by Kriss Russman. The disc - which was BBC Music Magazine Choral and Song choice in September - also features baritone James Rutherford in Butterworth's famous 'Six Songs from A Shropshire Lad' and other songs.

You've mentioned in several posts that you do not know much about the newer music. I was making mention of the one new album in that 99 cent that I know. I was a big fan of Everclear in it's original form in the early 90's and Black Is The New Black while not having the classic lineup is the first Everclear album in a long time that I liked enough to buy.

My first reaction after your earlier email is that it must have been one of the 99 cents, or maybe slightly higher, priced albums. But I did a Ctrl + f search twice, and didn't find it. Maybe the ghosts and goblins and demons and such have come out a little early this Halloween season and invaded my computer!

Based upon your high recommendation, I'll have to give a listen to at least a few of the tracks on the Everclear album! It wouldn't hurt me to become familiar with the current hot bands playing stuff in genres that I like.

Most of the newer bands I follow are non mainstream artists. I find most modern popular music to be complete garbage. If you like Hard Rock I highly recommend Alter Bridge, who just put out a new album that is fantastic IMO, and Blackberry Smoke. If you are into country I recommend Jason Boland, who is as traditional as they come today, and bands like Reckless Kelly and the Randy Rogers Band who mix Traditional Country sounds with a generous dose of Heartland Rock elements.
