The eastern world it is explodin',
violence flarin', bullets loadin',
you're old enough to kill but not for votin',
you don't believe in war, what's that gun you're totin',
and even the Jordan river has bodies floatin',
but you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Betty reminded me that I hadn't checked in with my morning song today. My apologies. I try not to share angry or unhappy music with others... keeping it locked inside me instead. The devastation in the north of Japan has me singing some angry songs...

I guess I'm fortunate in that I can just walk into the kitchen, choose from a varity of good teas, draw already hot water from an electric pot, and relax with a good drink. There are thousands just a few hundred miles from me who don't have that luxury this morning. So I'll drink my Keemun tea to them, with wishes that they can get through this crisis more easily, and pray for a better song tomorrow.

And I think a lot of us have angry and unhappy songs on our mind this morning. The world is a crazy and frightening place today. Thanks for sharing, though. We've missed you.

And on a lighter note...

In my cup: prune juice. Yes, prune juice. Strictly medicinal, I assure you. OMG, the worst effect of anesthesia and pain medicine is how badly is screws up your digestive system.

If it screwed up your digestive system, it sounds as if it was opium (codine) based. I'll bet you had some interesting dreams these last few days!

I'm pretty sure it was the morphine (in the hospital) that did it. I came home with Percoset, which I've had before with no problems. And I haven't had to take that for about a week now. Yep, must have been the morphine.

The cough syrup with vicodin they gave me last week was definitely good for some interesting dreams!

Morphine doesn't mess with my digestive system, but it sure gives me the world's worst headaches. I told them the last time they gave it to me I didn't want any more. Fortunately, that's been about 14 years ago, now.

Any of the opium derivatives give me headaches; morphine, codeine, vicodine, and even pure opium from a clean pipe. I lived with the Hmong tribes folk for a time during the war. (Those were the guys who supplied the raw opium that the US sold to help finance the Vietnam war, and the ones who gave rise to the famous "love beads" that we were all were wearing in the later 60's. Just a typical 'fashion statement' for the hill tribe people of S.E. Asia.)

yeah, I heard about that on the news yesterday. An entire village gone, just like that ... Really makes you think about the force of mother nature doesn't it ? I try not to look at the news too much, I usually just listen. Images likes the ones they were showing the last couple of days really break my heart.

my brother-in-law once told me about an interesting place where you sit on small chair on the pavement watching pedestrians walk by, have some bitter tea and sunflower seeds and a beautiful view of a lake he told me it was crucial in my living here, an important thing everyone must do if they want to understand this place

So I decided to went there yesterday with him. I admit I never enjoyed bitter tea, no matter how much sugar I add and what artificial flavor they add into the tea leaves. but believe it or not, I think that was changed! I especially liked the bitter tea yesterday and want to taste it again. I think the friendly, interesting and easy atmosphere there has many influences on me and I'll come back for sure

I have a photo taken after the Phuket tsunami of 2004. At first glance, it appears to be an ordinary jetty extending 50 meters out from the beach, covered in various floatsum and jetsum of the sea. But when you look closely at the image, you realize that most of that 'stuff' making up the jetty is human bodies. It's a very real reminder of the damage actually done...

Sometimes I don't like Mother Nature.

Tonight will be another few glasses of rum...

This is a beautiful planet and not at all fragile. Earth can withstand significant volcanic eruptions, tectonic cataclysms, and ice ages. But this canny, intelligent, prolific, and extremely self-centered human creature had proven himself capable of more destruction of life than Mother Nature herself.... We've got to be stopped. ~Michael L. Fischer, Harper's, July 1990

@mortis: true. it's ironic how humans talk of saving the environment as if they are trying to be heroes (i'm not opposed to saving the environment). i think the only way to save the environment is to eliminate humans. nature can and will survive without humans.
