I filed for the rebate mostly as a test to see if I would actually get it. Of course, my husband KNEW I wasn't going to get it (I hate it when he's right ). I looked back through the copies of the stuff I had and nothing in it says that I should send in the Amazon packing slip, just the receipt. According to Amazon, the receipt is what I received at the end of the ordering process ~ you know, the one that says, "keep this page as your receipt". I can live without the refund, but I hate it when a company looks for minor loop holes to not send you what you're due.

I believe it’s more nefarious than that, the longer they can keep “my” (it’s mine, I gave it to them at the time of purchase with the promise of repayment) the more interest they can draw on it. With the large number of units sold, that can amount to a considerable sum. Then, the more people who don’t bother, or just give up, or succumb to the confusion of what documents to send in, the better.

I am generally against Government interference of private business, but in this case I think mail in rebates borders on fraud and false advertising, and should be declared illegal.

FARKING TREE POLLEN! I've been losing my voice all day long because of it and it's annoying. Usually, I get a gradual run up of the stuff and my immune system compensates so that all I get is annoyed. However, I spent two weeks in another area and stepped out into spring in it's full glory so I just get to be smacked around by the reproductive proclivities of a nearly inanimate object. :grumble:

I feel your pain - literally! I worked in the yard Sunday - and my throat feels like raw hamburger! Dry as dust & painful! Can't we mandate safe sex for trees? Tree condoms? Abstinence? Flame throwers?

I felt exactly the same way last week trying to get the Verizon DSL to work.
Now - with Time Warner cable - life online is smooth (so far). Do you have a comparable cable option in Paris?

i had cable before, and at the time it was absolutely crappy. it may have changed since then but i'd rather not take my chances. the really infuriating thing is that most of the time my isp is quite reliable and the connexion is great. but right now i am ready to SCREAM !!!!!!!!!

Same here - Verizon DSL worked flawlessly for 4 years. Then the unexplained outages. And the total lack of response on the support lines. Then blaming my equipment, etc. Cable used to be lousy here - now it's the gold standard. Go figure. Maybe we just have to switch ISP providers every 5 years to follow the cycle?

hmph. i've been with my isp for a lot longer than 5 years. but you may be on to something. i really hope i don't have to switch though, what a pain in the a$$.

I've learned the hard way - if the company really doesn't care and doesn't want to help you - unless you stumble upon a support tech that's a real human being, you're doomed to frustration - until the $$ doesn't matter any more. It's less important than your blood pressure.

yes, that's a good point, and i agree, but i still remember the absolutely horrific experience i had the last time i had cable internet, and i can't help thinking that it would be a mistake to leave my current isp, even if currently i am wishing individual death and destruction on each and every one of their techs / "help" counsellors.

for any of you suffering with reactions to pollen, get LOCAL honey and use it in anything you can think of. it helps build up resistance to the local pollens because you are consuming them. Bee spit rocks!

I may have to resort to eating the flowers directly - I don't think there are any beekeepers near where I work... (for some reason, the trees near work affect me more than the trees near home)

do they have farmers markets there? I've always found those to be the best resources for fresh local honey

Most rebate offers are legitimate, and people who file for them do get the rebates. I consider the ones discussed here the exceptions, not the rule. If they were the rule, I would expect to see the sort of action you advocate. It isn't, so that sort of action isn't taken.

How much I'll care will depend on how much the rebate was supposed to be. In the case I mentioned, the answer was "Not enough to be worth the trouble to press the issue." I had other things to do with my time, shrugged, and moved on.

So I sympathize with your feelings, but I'm afraid I can't agree. The problem isn't great enough to require that sort of action.
