That almost certainly means that the PDF in question is an image based PDF with a small amount of (badly) OCR'ed text behind the images. Calibre has converted the OCR'ed text and discarded the images.
If this is the case then you are almost certainly better off not trying to convert the PDF file and load the PDF unaltered onto the reader device. The alternative is find better source material. |

Likely the two PDF's are really image files with words on the images. You will need to OCR them.

I think you'd be better off with a 650 instead of a K3. or for that matter, maybe an iPad.

setting the icon image for an epub using calibre
Hi, I'm using Calibre 0.7.35 on a Mac (OS X 10.6.5). Since I'm kind of compulsive about having covers on my epubs, I've been adding them to my books. I've noticed that some epubs I've bought show a little icon of the cover in the Finder, but those produced by Caliber don't. Is there a way to get them to show up? (It seems to be using some sort of default icon image instead.) I haven't found anything obvious in the user manual. It's obviously not necessary, but it would satisfy the OCD side

Keep in mind that a ePub to ePub conversion overwrites the original ePub so you might want to have a backup in case the converted ePub isn't to your liking. Additionally calibre can not convert books that are restricted by DRM. |

Apparently you can copy-and-paste a PNG file in Mac OS X to create a custom-icon, but lordy knows I don't want to do that on a book-by-book basis. Anybody have any brilliant ideas?

What you need is a QuickLook plug-in that works on any ePub file. Unfortunately, the only one I've found only works with the cover metadata added by iTunes, probably because doing a generic cover finding algorithm for ePub is tricky.

Apologies for interrupting with a very basic question, but I've just tried converting a mobi to an Epub ... with rather poor results; it's readable on my device, but just barely, the formatting is pretty bad. Is there some intermediate step (format) I should be using?

Hi all,
Sorry if the question is trivial but I'm pretty new to ebooks and Calibre. I purchase my books in azw format, because it's the better option in Europe for price and choice. I use Calibre to convert them to epub format for my PRS650. All was working fine until yesterday. My new bought book looks fine in azw format, but when converted, it loses justification (as well on Calibre viewer as on the PRS650). And, worse, pages don't show properly : on the viewer, last line of the page repeats on the following one; on the PRS, lines are missing on beginning of pages, whatever the font size. Is there something I can do about this ? Thanks for your answers. |

The other possibility is you're using a script to remove the drm that may not be the latest version or this book has something unique that the creators of the script haven't seen before so the outcome is less then perfect. It might pay in the future to test your work flow on the free sample first. |
