For one year, you can get Hulu for $5.99/year. After the year is over, the plan returns to $7.99/month. This is valid for their Limited Commercials plan only.

This offer is good for new subscribers only.

In case you have not had a chance to use Hulu before, you can get one week free to check them out and see how you like them.

Thanks for posting this.

FYI, RE: "This offer is good for new subscribers only": Hulu emailed me this deal, and I'm a lapsed Hulu+ subscriber.

Yeah, I wondered what they meant by "new subscribers," but I thought that if someone were interested that they would look into it. If I had thought that a lot of people would have been interested, I would have looked into myself, so as to save a lot of people the trouble.

UPS/Fedex & USPS don't work together out of altruism. It's a business arrangement, where UPS/Fedex does the long-haul part of the delivery and USPS does the last mile delivery. Both get paid, but less than either would for doing the entire thing. It works because the package is basically piggy-backing on shipping that would happen anyway. UPS/Fedex trucks/planes are heading between the distribution centers full of packages anyway, so adding a few more doesn't add to the costs much. USPS is going to be sending out people on the mail routes Monday through Saturday anyway, so a few more packages doesn't add to the costs. (Especially since UPS/Fedex takes it to the closest post office.)

It's a bit of a wash on package delivery time. If you live close to a distribution center (like I do), it usually adds a day to the delivery time. UPS will delivery to my local post office, often the same day it's shipped, and then I get to wait till the following morning before USPS brings it out. If you're further away, it may decrease the time. This isn't a major issue with Amazon, as they plan for the actual delivery date for each method and pick accordingly.

I get Sunday delivery as part of my prime all the time. got two packages from them just today. I think it depends on where you live and whether the local post office will participate. I have things sent to my father and it was just recently that he started getting stuff on sundays, though I had been for quite some time.

Hurry!

A free download from Classical-music.com, Shai Wosner performs Haydn, is set to expire in a day or so.

Why didn't I let you guys know before now, what with Classical-music.com's free downloads occurring once a week? All that I can say is that I didn't see an email to remind me until just a few minutes ago. In short, I dropped the ball.

But it is still available! That's the good news.

This week's free download is the Finale from Haydn's Piano Concerto No. 4 in G, performed by Shai Wosner and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, and conducted by Nicholas Collon.

The disc was
BBC Music Magazine Concerto Choice in September. 'Wosner responds to every twist and turn with a sense of great immediacy as well as an airy, high-stepping poise,' writes Jessica Duchen.

You've got to have an account to download freebies from Classical-music.com. If you do have an account, make sure that you're logged in. If you are logged in, you should see a bright red button saying "download now" superimposed over the thumbnail of the album cover at this webpage. Click on the button. The download should begin immediately. When it's finished, you're ready to click on the downloaded file and listen!

You did exactly right: reporting the opportunity exactly as it was offered allows interested parties to pursue it. It's not the OP's responsibility (in this instance, yours) to know the target audience for this offer is actually broader than Hulu's description implies. The beauty of sharing such info in a forum is: forum participants can point out additional info, provide feedback, and (except in the case of indie books) help vet the quality of offerings, etc.

Coincidentally, this classical music freebie that I'm about to tell you about is a Haydn piece, like the last freebie that I posted was.

This one is performed by the Goldmund Quartet, and recorded on a Naxos album, Haydn String Quartets. The particular piece that is free today from the album is String Quartet No. 29 "How do you do": I. Vivace assai.

There's a lot of interesting and useful information about the whole album here on this webpage.

Find the direct MP3 download link to this 6 minute, 11 second free piece on this webpage.

It's always nice to have the daily YourClassical freebies resume after their weekend hiatus!

Agreed; I love music Mondays! (Weekly - YourClasical.org, eMusic.com, Classical-Music.com, and - every two weeks - Alexander Street. Did I miss any?)

Guys before you do the Hulu subscription you should know that CBS and CW are absent from the service. Also to watch most content you need to be a paying subscriber. This will just lead to more people using alternate means to get the content IMO.

From a Naxos set of albums, My First Classical Albums, YourClassical is offering a free Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart [please, can't they just dispose of the "Wolfgang Amadeus" business? We all know which Mozart it's talking about, don't we?, G] piece today, Clarinet Quintet II: Larghetto.

It's a 5 minute, 54 second MP3 piece. It is performed by the Danubius Quartet. Joszef Balogh plays the clarinet.

It's nice to see a free piece featuring the clarinet. It's been one of my favorite musical instruments all the way since elementary school, but it's rarely the featured instrument in a classical music work, it seems.

You might wish to know more about the whole 9-CD Box set from which this one piece is taken. If so, point your browser to this Naxos webpage. Ready to download the free piece? Then click on the "Direct MP3 download link" on this webpage.

Very helpful information, I'd say. Thanks for mentioning it.

Peeps who signed up would eventually notice the absence, and I noticed that the fine print said that a subscriber could cancel anytime. But why sign up or even accept it on a trial basis if you already know that it's not going to have a significant part of what you'd like to see?

Karma for the info.

Get the First Van Halen Album of the Sammy Haggar Era for Only 99 Cents!

I find it annoying doing business with Google Play, for a variety of reasons. But, let's face it, when Google Play Music has its best deals, they are of such a caliber that it puts to shame all of the other guys.

That's true of Van Halen's album 5150. It's rated 4.8, from 270 reviews at the present moment. Right now, Google Play has it for 99 cents! That's less than the price of a single track on the album!

This was Van Halen's first album with Sammy Hagar as the lead singer. Hagar replaced David Lee Roth, who either left on his own or got booted out of the band, I don't know which (whatever happened to him, anyway? But, I digress). Frankly, I don't think that Van Halen was as good of a band post-Roth (I liken it to the band Journey after Steve Perry left). But, there are others who feel just the opposite. One thing for sure, they were still a mighty good band with Sammy Hagar as the frontman.

This is not an anthology of greatest hits, or anything like that, but there are at least 4 songs out of the 9 on the album that I consider solid hits--"Why Can't This Be Love?," "Dreams," "Love Walks In," and "Best of Both Worlds." That's 4 desirable tracks for less than 25 cents each! The album was a must-buy for me.

Read all about the album here, including how the album got its name (or should I say "number?" ha) 5150--it's a hoot. At the same webpage, you can purchase the album if you wish.

Note: there are 6 more albums currently priced at 99 cents at Google Play. I don't recognize any of the bands, however. I don't know if that is because they are not very popular bands now or if it is because they are newer bands that I am not familiar with. Find these, and other ones, priced higher, at this webpage. And, no, I don't know why Google Play keeps calling this category "Hot Albums from $7.99" when there are always several less than $7.99.
