Edited: Okay, I've managed. Thanks!!
-------------------------------------- Hello, A n00b questions, if you don't mind. (Sorry if it was answered million times already, I really tried my best to search it up!) Followed the instructions and run the JB on my PW2. Worked amazingly (=jailbrake succeed). Thanks! Next step: installed KUAL 2.6+helper, but when I'm executing it I'm getting the "this device is not authorized as a test kindle by the developer" error. I thought it might be a MKK issue, tried to install it- but device is not recognising the bin file as an update. What can I do? Another question I wasn't sure about- after JB-ing, device should be kept in Airplane Mode forever? Many thanks, I'm new in here and it seems as an amazing community! Cheers! twelve posts prior to yours, in this thread:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=884 You did the first part, now do the second (run the 'hotfix'). The 'hotfix' installs, among other things, the jailbreak 'survival kit', once that is done, the 'bridge' code will re-install the jailbreak and the MKK developer keys after each update to the firmware version. Note: With firmware series 5.6.x and 5.7.x you **MUST** use KUAL and the MrPI KUAL extension to install any of our update_*.bin packages. (Both KUAL and MrPI are in stickies) Last edited by knc1; 03-20-2016 at 05:22 PM. |

Hi all, I have a kindle paperwhite 3 and this is my first time jailbreaking it. From what I have read, the jailbreak only works on firmware 5.6.5. The problem is, my PW3 is currently running on 6.7.2.1. Is there any way for me to revert back to 5.6.5, or is there any available jailbreak for this version currently? i'm interested in jailbreaking so that I can display the cover of my current book being read. Thanks.

1) open up the unit and follow the serial jailbreak thread 2) wait for someone to find one of two possible "closed kindle" solutions: 2a) a new security hole in the new firmware that yields a new jailbreak 2b) a way to downgrade to 5.6.5 and allow the current jailbeak to be used Thankfully I was able to use the jailbreak on my KT2, as I suspect my skills would have been insufficient to take the serial approach and would have left me with a KT2 paperweight. Thanks so much for the clarification. I doubt that I am skilled enough to open up my kindle nor am I willing enough to risk it though. Haha So I guess I'll just have to wait for someone to come up with a closed kindle hack. Thanks again! ![]() |

could someone describe what does this code means. whatever it is i think its the key to jailbreak if we come up with a new code it might work for newer version

It is the public part of our package signature key. OpenSSL will convert that to ANSI if you would like to read it. (or put it on your computer and open it with your browser - I think all browsers know how to present a readable version of a certificate). And the answer is "No" - That does not change with the firmware versions. |

Hi,
I've just tried the "jb method" but it fails during stage 2 : the Kindle returns to the home page and displays an error window about an application that couldn't start. Have I missed something ? KT2 / 5.6.5 |

Stick with the directions in the two links of the first post's multi-colored paragraph. Be certain you have put the jb **FILE** in the root of the visible USB storage. Don't forget to enter ;fc-cache in the home page search bar when told to. (Those are the two most common causes of trouble.) |

But I found the easier method by myself one hour ago : opening local "index.html" with the Kindle's web browser. And this time, it didn't stopped at stage 2. I got a "jailbreak failed" when running ";fc-cache", but I was able to install the update however. And now, I have a working Koreader, the thing I wanted to use since I bought my Kindle a year ago ! A cheap reader to read all kind of documents ! Thank you very much for your work and support ![]() |

I have successfully jailbroken my PW3 G090 using "file://" method. Everything went smoothly on first try even without Factory Reset.
If anyone finds this useful, I first updated from factory 5.6.1.1 to 5.6.5, then copied files to kindle root, loaded index.html from kindle browser (ignoring the message that I'm on airplane mode, access to local files still works obviously), followed instructions, ran ;fc-cache in search bar, got Jailbreak successful, installed hotfix via Update my kindle, installed KUAL by copying azw2 to documents, installed MRPI and added some extensions which showed up in KUAL menu. |

FYI, my sister just bought a voyage from Amazon.com. It still has 5.6.5. I've instructed her not to connect to Wi-Fi till she sees me
