Thanks for this! I'm surprised, since both screens are supposed to be the same resolution. If you adjust the font-weight on the Kobo, can that make the text as sharp as on the Voyage?

I'm surprised to hear that text on the Glo HD is not as sharp as on the Voyage. People have reported that the lighting on the Voyage is a cooler shade compared to the warmer shade on the Glo HD. Could that be the reason? I'd imagine that e-ink on a cooler background would pop out more than on a warmer background.

How do they compare in daylight with the lighting on the devices turned off completely?

If you're interested in jailbreaking and customizing, Kobo is going to be more flexible.

Wow! I ordered mine a few minutes past midnight on May 5th so technically it was May 6th and they shipped it later in the day on May 6th and it is in my hot little hands processing all my books as we speak!

I had a Kobo Aura for a couple of weeks before receiving my Kobo Glo HD and my initial impressions are very positive for the Glo HD.

The higher resolution means I can read at a smaller point size and as a result, have fewer page turns. Graphic novels that used to be cut off on the Aura are now displayed in all their full page glory.

The contrast improvement is quite noticeable to my eye. I found that the Aura's screen was almost middle to slightly dark grey and that I harder time reading text against it, especially at night.

The Glo light was good on both devices, with my Aura having a more bluish tint. I find that the Glo HD comfort light is slightly blue at 30% or less and more white the brighter you go. But not a big deal in my books. I mean hey, I'm reading books in pitch black without waking anyone - that. is. amazing.

I'm glad I returned my Aura and got the Glo HD for only $10 more (after a discount) in Canada.

The Kobo Aura screen wasn't good enough. They tried an ereader with a capacitive touch screen but although the light is great, the screen is darker and less crisp compared to the competition. Therefore, upgrading to the Glo HD from the Aura is likely to be a good move, anyone with an Aura should notice an improvement to how the screen looks.

However, I don't think people should get too tied up in comparing it to the Kindle Voyage screen. IMHO I wouldn't expect the screen of the Glo HD to be as crisp and clear as the Kindle Voyage (or the Aura H2O), as its probably a slightly unfair comparison. Doesn't the competitive price of the Glo HD suggest its significantly cheaper to make than the Voyage? So while the Glo HD does have the improved resolution and Carta e-ink screen of the Voyage, its probably lacking in other aspects.

The fact is, it's been priced to beat the Kindle Paperwhite, so that's what it should be measured against. The fact that the screen might even be nearly as good as the Voyage (and the light better?) is a bonus.

It's $129.99 and it's Canadian. It's from a Canadian website so usually prices quoted are in Canadian unless the site specifies otherwise.

Yes, Canadian dollars. I checked my credit card account online and it has the order converted to $97.88.

The US dollar strengthened even more today.

Mine was delivered to the US in 2 days via USPS ground, I'm pretty sure they're just covering all possibilities. My package did require a signature though, so you know to watch for the mailman or have someone there who can sign.

I think the Glo HD actually has much better contrast (at least my screen). Text looked grey on my Voyage (I returned it) and even less bold then my PW2. 300PPI combined with the font-weight adjuster makes for some really nice text. My screen looks much better than the Voyage when in natural lighting.

Check out the pics on page 57 to see the boldness in the text.

The voyage may be a tad sharper but I think that truly depends on what font is being used.

IMO, I am much more satisfied with the Glo HD screen. My screen is really nice at least.

I wasn't trying to start a "Which Is Better: Kobo GloHD or Kindle Voyage" debate. Sorry if it came off that way. I'm interested in Kobo because it's more customizable, plus it sounds like the lighting is more even. I was just surprised to read reports that the GloHD's text seemed less sharp than the Voyage since both have 300 dpi Carta screens. I was hoping it was just an issue of adjusting font-weight or lighting.
