the problem is, I tried The Mortal Instruments (City of Bones) and I didn't like it. I tried The Girl who... (forget what she did, maybe she kicked some nests) and I didn't like it. I tried Mistborn and I didn't like it. and now I tried Songs of Ice and Fire and I didn't like it, again!!!! it's a little bit frustrating, is it not?
The Girl book I read was ok... but didn't make me want to read the other two. I haven't read the Mortal one.

But, I very much enjoyed the Mistborn trilogy. How far into it did you get?

But, not everyone likes everything.

Then you need to read "Homer & Langley" by E. L. Doctorow
or "Last Night on Twisted River" by John Irving.

I just finished (just about) The Hunger Games and highly recommend it. No magic or dragons to be found. I would almost call it a "thriller" even though it is supposed to be a "young adult" book. It's the first book that I have really "cried" during in a while during once specific section. Which seems to say I really cared about or could empathize with the characters.

Seems as much as I really like Sci-Fi/Fantasy I haven't been reading much of it. I seem to be reading more crime/thriller/mystery stuff recently. Although I did read the last two Mistborn books in the past 3-4 months.

Exactly. I'm pretty ruthless (particularly when it involves an additional attempt at Ulysses ).

I would like to take another run at The Sound and The Fury though.

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about The Sound and The Fury, thanks! Ulysses was great, or the first and last chapters were, the rest was at times a bit hard to follow, but those two chapters were wonderful

Hey, now there's an idea. I'll just read those.

I don't think the same holds for The Sound and the Fury though.

They are Swedish films, subtitled in English. If you have Netflix you can view them instantly on your pc/xbox/wii. If you haven't read the book or seen the film yet... there are a few rough scenes in there. NOT for kids.

I've heard Hollywood is going to make their version of the movie.

I'd call Percy Jackson Young Adult Fantasy. Take 'young adult' with a grain of salt though as I've read them (and I'm sure many others have too) and found them a fun read.

You might like the Fablehaven books by Brandon Mull. I've not read the newest one but they are good books.

Or maybe the Kingdom Keepers by Ridley Pearson a must read if you like the Disney parks.

I just finished The Door to the Sky and loved it. Now I'm starting the classic 1984. It makes sense to at least read it once in my lifetime.

Hey, you're in good company! I don't like those books either!!! Maybe you just like different stuff. A lot of those are fairly large (and rambling) books...

Plenty of other books out there. Try something lighter. Maybe it will be more fun!

I'll look for them, and thank you for the heads up about "no kids".

I'm reading a very entertaining book called But Can You Drink the Water? byJan Hurst-Nicholson. It is weird and sweet and funny. It has been on my TBR for several months. Here's the link http://www.amazon.com/But-Can-Drink-...3751296&sr=1-1

I generally don't read Fantasy but tried it by recommendation. To be honest I don't read books with wizards, magic, or supernatural elements. And this book had all of them.

Also, I wanted to try a self-published author. His writing wasn't impressive.

This is normal for me. I seldom finish a book I start. I'm very picky. Some call me a snob ... at least not to my face.
