I like both of these ideas. I would bet that walmart and/or target gift cards would be pretty helpful if they are trying to quickly replace things they need for day-to-day living. Once they figure out what they have left, where they are going to be, and what they need, maybe we can set something up.

Storms have ended here (I think) - fortunately the most severe ones tracked to the east of us (along I-95).
Goldie cat has emerged from 12 hours of hiding - and is eating & playing again. Poor baby is terrified of storms & wind!

We're all looking forward to a calm night's sleep tonight.

My mother's pug mix -- Sammy dog -- has a terrible thunderstorm phobia that has gotten worse as he's gotten older. Last night I dosed him with Benadryl before the storms approached, and it worked pretty well. He had some moderate trembling and panting in the worst part of the storm, but during the whole evening when it was approaching he snoozed beside me on the couch. Lately he's been in full-fledged panic with panting and drooling and heavy shudders when the storms are coming, and will do that for hours. The Benadryl definitely seemed to help and he suffered no ill effects from it.

Benadryl? That's generally for allergies/allergic reactions.

It's common for nurses to give it to patients in hospitals to help them to sleep. It makes most people rather drowsy, and they don't need a doctor to prescribe it.

Yes, even for dogs it's usually for allergies, and I have to give it to him occasionally in the spring when he starts wheezing with some sort of grass allergy. Last time I did that I watched him get so much calmer and drowsier as his breathing eased and I wondered about using it for the anxiety (which gives him similar symptoms.) I did a little research and found that quite a few owners do it for that. This is the first time I did it, but I'll do it again when I need to. I hate seeing him in that panicked state.

Sunny today, a little chill in the wind as it blows in from the North Sea. Dry as a bone!

Frosty again this morning and the saplings are looking very sick !

Cool this morning (51 F) - sunny & breezy! Will have a nice couple of days before the next round of storms rolls through! Sigh.

Its hard to believe its so gorgeous out today. When my partner and I went out for our run yesterday we had to wait for a family of deer to cross our trail.
