Actually, it's easy enough for me to go into the CSS and fix it the way I want.

Well, I'm here again, and what I did worked for about 100 books...the rest stayed gray. I don't understand at all, I did the same thing to each one, spent hours reconverting it, clicking the same box, removing the old and uploading the new, and only a handful worked. So, any other ideas on how to get the cover to show on the front of the books?

hello everyone, i started converting pdf to epub format just recently. most of the time all is well and it works totally awesome with calibre on standard settings.
now i happen to come across some pdf's that after i convert them to epub only show three pages. if i convert the pdf to a text file though, i get this: Document Outline scan0001 scan0002 scan0003 scan0004 scan0005 scan0006 scan0007 and so forth. i can assume that the pages i see in the pdf are really just the scanned image and that's what it tries to convert. is there an easy way to get the text back. (except for manually typing it) like a text recognition software or something. thanks in advance. |

Hi J42,
Welcome to the forum. It is better to start a new thread for a new problem or discussion. To answer your question check our wiki under OCR optical character recognition. Dale |

Hi, I noticed that somewhere in this topic Kovid mentioned that embedding fonts options would be included into the plugin. Was it already done? And if so, how can I do it?
And, yeah, I need exactly this option - I know about alternatives, like extra CSS, but they work only partially for me. |

How I can get kindle 3 to show Arabic ePub format books correctly.
It only showed the letters as squares with question marks instead of regular Arabic letters. I've read the whole forum and there were several helpful hints into embedding fonts, but none for kindle 3 or Arabic fonts. |

You're right, I'm sorry for the confusion.
I managed to convert ePub to MOBI with no problems, but as I said, it didn't show correctly. I have lots of Arabic books in ePub format that I had on my iPhone, but I really want it for Kindle 3 :~( |

Unfortunately I can't be specific, since I never owned a kindle, moreover didn't deal with arabic fonts, but I think the algorithm should be similar to what did it for me in Sony Reader. There is a field in calibre's conversion options called "Extra CSS, located in "Preferences => (Conversion) Common Options". For sony readers you're supposed to input something like this: Code:
@font-face {font-family: serif; src:url(res:///opt/sony/ebook/FONT/tt0011m_.ttf)} @font-face {font-family: sans-serif; src:url(res:///opt/sony/ebook/FONT/tt0003m_.ttf)} html {font-family: serif;} h1 {font-family: sans-serif;} Two questions here: 1) Does Kalibre support Arabic fonts by default. - Not sure here, but I think it does, I read it somewhere that they have an extensive support of all major language groups. 2) where are these fonts located and how can they be referenced on Kindle. I hope this was any help. Also, since you've basically need an .mobi output, appropriate thread would be this one: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36729 Maybe somebody can help you more there. |

As you said; which was very helpful ![]() But, that doesn't work for Arabic or some other languages unfortunately. Calibre does support Arabic and many other languages, but it doesn't offer embedding these languages with books when you want to transfer them to the e-reader. My question is this, how Cyrillic is doing with other languages other than Arabic? Have you tried that? |

Yes, by default Sony Readers don't support font's other than Latin. In my case I can do it since I use custom firmware, which adds support of Cyrillic and few other perks. But that's only for Cyrillic. Obviously I'm not aware about Arabic fonts, but I have to believe there should be something similar. Secondly, the guy, who owns Sony Reader should look at this:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28447 (should work for other sony reader as well, didn't try it though). basically, you can have any font you prefer. In the meantime what you can do is simply convert files into PDF formatted for reader screen (can be set up easily in Calibre) - PDF has it's fonts embedded and therefore will be able to read Arabics. |

But 2 converted without text and read like this ![]() ![]() any ideas as to why? or how i can fix this? thanks in advance! |
