The first thing I bought for my DXG was an Oberon cover. They are expensive but, for me, worth every penny. They offer good protection, feel great in the hand, and look wonderful. It gives me the feeling that I am reading a nice leather bound book.

Expensive is a relative thing. If you have the disposable income to buy a cover, it isn't expensive. Just think of all the folks out there buying lottery tickets who would tell you that a $69.00 is way to expensive (or a Kindle at $139.00 is way to expensive) but they don't stop and think how the $5.00 a week on lotto adds up.

The Oberon cover makes the Kindle into as good a physical book as anything the "smell and feel" guys can find and it still has all the many advantages of an eBook reader. No, I have to disagree. The cover is not too expensive. |

WOW - im simply amazed when i checked the shipping cost from the USA to England as i was expecting them to try to rape international customer's like so many other U.S company's i have tried to deal with over the years.
And many other U.S company's cant evan be bothered to ship outside U.S and Canada BUT NO !!! these people know there stuff and realize that dealing with overseas customers is a good for business. i got a quote of $10.76 = 6.80 pounds using airmail which is pretty reasonable in my books. We just received our two K3 covers. Mine is the blue dragonfly and it's gorgeous, the detail they achieve in the leather is amazing. My wife's is the red hummingbird and that red is a rich red. Gorgeous too.
The black background for the hummingbird is not all black. There are these tiny, tiny raised red dots. I am amazed they can achieve a detail that small in the design. They included a couple of small key chain charms that match the covers and each cover has an extra stretchy corner strap to replace a worn one. Literature inside says the leather will contain imperfections. I haven't found any so far. Should I be worried? ![]() |

As nice as they are, I will not be purchasing one for my K3 - it's wonderfully light and thin and I prefer to keep it that way. ![]() That said, they are very much worth the price. |

I'm excited because my Bold Celtic cover in saddle is due to arrive on Thursday. I have a feeling that if I like it, I'm going to be ordering a red Sky Dragon to go with it. That thing keeps tempting me. |

I've had my Oberon Bold Celtic design cover in saddle color for over a week now and I love it. It is so much nicer to hold, feel, smell, and look at than the well-designed Amazon cover. It's definitely a keeper and a purchase I do not regret in the least.
I like it so much, and I was so torn when I picked that design, that I ordered a 2nd one in the red Sky Dragon design. If that's extravagant and decadent, then I guess I'll have to live with the guilt. Another way to look at it is that the cover is about the cost of two and half new hard cover books. Anyway, Oberon has some excellent and skilled crafts people and they are very reasonably priced. |

Wow, you folks are going to make it impossible for me to resist getting an Oberon cover by the time I can afford a Kindle 3.

I doubt you'll regret either. I love my K3, although rather than buy an Oberon K3 cover, I retro-fitted my Oberon Nook cover (da Vinci in saddle) with a leather awl and waxed thread. I sold the Nook.

Got my Oberoncovers. Had to pay 55 euro Customs though and I was already, financially that is, a bit low because I ordered one for my iPad as well. But, they're beautiful. Put the Amazoncover in the photo to compare.
The leather straps on the lower side for the Kindle takes a little time to get used to, but doesn't prevent access to the keys. I feel very luxurious. Am going to Paris next week for a couple of days and plan to sit and read in my Kindle, flashing my new cover. So if you see someone with Wild (Red) Roses in the TGV-train to P. on sunday; it'll be me. ![]() Last edited by desertblues; 02-27-2012 at 01:07 PM. |

I was about to add a comment that paying 50% of the device cost for a cover cannot be justifiable but desertbluespicture left me speechless. If people can afford them, then they certainly are worth the price.
That said, I still won't be buying one ![]() |

My thing is how heavy it would make the Kindle One thing I love about the kindle is how light it is. With the cover it would be quite heavy. I added it up on a scale I had it would be as heavy as an 8oz glass of water, which isn't heavy, but when you read like I do, for hours at a time it's a little too heavy.

Thank you Gollu, for the compliment. I got two key-charms as well for free; one butterfly for the Wild Roses and a leaf for the Av.of trees. (yes, I'm a sucker for freebies).

For the Kindle I find the extra weight not annoying. But I can imagine if one has issues with weight; it could be; that's personal. The cover on the Kindle gives me a secure feeling though: a good grip on the uneven surface and the feeling that my Kindle is well protected (and pretty). ![]() As for the iPad; I must honestly say that the cover is quite heavy, and added to the weight of the tablet itself, I can imagine it could be a problem. But that one also gives me a secure feeling about protection. Last edited by desertblues; 10-04-2010 at 11:04 AM. Reason: grammar, grammar |

![]() I don't think the added weight of the cover is going to bother me; I seem to like books with a bit of substance to them (no pun intended.) Not that you can judge a book by it's weight, of course. ![]() Holly |
