BTW, i also noticed the refresh was somewhat faster, but before reading this thread... So i guess it's either a common placebo, shared between most Sony Reader users (which seems to indicate the deepest concern we have about our new shiny toy ), or it really IS faster.

I'm inclined to think the screen refresh itself isn't any faster, however, it now takes considerably less time for the reader to render the page. Hence, total refresh time IS somewhat shorter.

Count me in the "Wants a clock" group. I have one on eReader for Palm OS, and I really like that easy way to keep track of time. On an hour change, that clock sometimes is misleading in where the hour hand points on the analog clock face, and yet it's still nice to have.

Hey, if we keep wanting things on this thing we are getting away from the concept of what this is, which is a reader. I want a little hand held computer and I will go out and buy one of those.

There's quite a way to go from a watch to a handheld. It's not exactly like everyone suddenly wants the Reader to be a PIM, it's just that some of us get carried away while reading ebooks and would like to have something reminding us from time to time what the time is (try reading that three times in a row real fast )

Besides, PRS-500 IS a little Linux-powered handheld computer

One of the reasons I read fiction is to keep myself away from such things as clocks, alarms, and deadlines.

A clock is definitely a necessary addition.

This is certainly something which seems to be a personal matter. I couldn't give two hoots whether or not it has a clock myself. The one thing I want more than anything else is pictures in RTF files. Come on Sony - every other book reading software I use can manage this, so surely you can too?

Yesterday I updated Sony Connect with no problems.
Today I updated my SONY Reader, it got to the "Updating firmware now..." message and has been hung there for 30+ minutes.
I restarted and disconnected the reader. The reader now says "Firmware update is not finished correctly. Please execute firmware update again" (duh...)
I am attempting again from the stand alone updater.
Keeping my fingers crossed...

@flumbo and @NatCh

You're both right about the newfound quickness. I could see it too just after the blackout screen.

Anyone noticed anything else or is this update more about Vista?

BTW when Vista(and it will) outdates my 2 year old PC, I'm going back the Mac way. They sent email pub. in that regard and it makes a lot of sense.

About a clock... it's needed here. When I start reading I loose track of time and have to suffer consequences. I find myself forraging for my watch and keeping it at eye distance every time I settle down with the reader. A tiny clock in the corner near the battery charge indicator would'nt hurt anyone.
