Is anyone from B&N management reading this? Is B&N listening?

I found this posting: http://www.nookboards.com/forum/index.php?topic=2263.0 that said to post what i want for the next update. I found out that this is just the 'Help Desk', but i sent a link of this thread. MAYBE they will see this and add the features we are craving for!!!
![]() Also, an app store for the nook (Such as the Apple-ick-app store) would decimate the Kindle! Open it up for 3rd parties to be able to create apps! But this is down on the list... |

The goal was 100 responses and we're at 76 with a few days left. I think we'll get close to it.
In the meantime, I'm thinking of putting together a design. Is there anyone interested in providing input? |

I just voted!
Gosh I'd like so many of those but if limited to three: #1 - A notes application. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE this. #2 - Coverflow for all books. I've grown very accustomed to coverflow and want all my books to be able to look cool like that! #3 - Landscape view. I'd like to try it out seeing as this is my first e-reader. |

A better dictionary (and dictionary workflow) would be great. Quite a few words I look up aren't "found."
I also voted for coverflow for all books, SDK, landscape view. |

I know it's not a hardware feature, but I'd love B&N to kick some publishers in the fanny and get more monthly magazines in the shop.

Well, we ended up with 91 responses as opposed to the 100 we had hoped for. I will be doing a design and starting another thread to post it. I'd like to get input from all interested.

I gotta agree with the suggestion for the use of folders. We bought two CoolERs over a year ago and it respected folders so our 1000+ volume ebook library was sorted into fiction/nonfiction (I have a ton of software engineering books), then by author. When the CoolERs started acting flaky last weekend I decided to get us a couple of Nooks because if anything went wrong we could return them locally.
So imagine our surprised when we put our collection on these things (part of it anyway) and then had to page through 75 pages of books in seemingly random order. Since the author was not consistently picked up from format to format, that could not be used to find a book reliably. Also, since the titles were even worse (some variations were like "Running with the Demon, Terry Brooks", "ebook - Running with the Demon", "1. Running with the Demon", "The Word and the Void - Running with the Demon" and...well you get the idea). So all of our work to carefully sort the books came to nothing. That said, once the Nook is pointed at the right book, it does well as long as we use .epub format. .TXT files and PDF didn't fare as well. This is one area the CoolER kicked booty on. All of the folders were reflected in the browse list so the same search would take no more than 4-5 page clicks (3 to the right section/author/book series and then maybe a couple to get to the book). One other thing I wanted to point out about the Nook is the same thing wrong (and only thing IMHO) with my smartphone: the extended microSD storage can only be accessed by taking the cover off (in the cell phone (XPeria X10) you had to do that and take out the battery first too. PITA. I guess one more thing for the wish-list would be the ability to name bookmarks... That said, in general we love the idea of ereaders and have read a lot more since getting them... |

Well, I sent B&N an e-mail letting them know about his poll and what I was up to in terms of design. I received the following back from them. I'm thinking maybe it's not worth the effort to put any work into this.
"Thank you for your inquiry. We are always eager to learn about new services or products that will enhance our customer's shopping experience. Please feel free to send a letter of introduction to our Marketing Department. Our staff will contact you if they feel that your product/service complements our own. Please send your letter to: Marketing Department Barnes & Noble 76 Ninth Ave, 11th Floor New York, NY 10011" |

Just a question for the developers among us: If we wanted to create our own updates, how hard is it to integrate into the existing software. I mean, keeping the look and feel and the basic structure the same? Also, how hard or is it even possible to create our own firmware that doesn't rely on the existing firmware? Would be still be able to browse and buy books? Get the Friday freebee? |
