It would be readable on the vast majority of hardware that supports ePub since pretty much all of them besides the ipad support the same drm-scheme.

Sony, in their infinite wisdom, has yet to see fit to make their store available to the iPad market yet. And you know what? That's their loss.
Actually, it isn't, they only opened a store for their reader in the states because it was expected by people due to the kindle, but that clearly isn't a major focus of theirs since they make hardware, you can see how little importance they placed on their ebookstore from the way they didn't launch any outside of north america and simply chose partners in the various countries.

Actually I don' think so, the Sony Reader and the Sony book store was there way ahead of Amazon and the Kindle. I think this was their own decision, perhaps due to copyright issues. I think Borders are also limited to the US for their ebooks for the Kobo reader.

You can purchase eBooks from Sony and use the txtr app on the iPhone/iPod Touch and/or the iPad and read them without having to strip the DRM.

Thanks, yes that is what I do partly! The new Txtr application is much better than the previous one, so it works fine! But from reading comfort point of view I prefer Stanza or Kindle.

Don't agree, it has a great way to do it since you can have your whole book library on their site and can transfer over books wirelessly.

And no need to take up all that extra limited ram with eBooks you are not reading.

I don't know when it will be released, but Overdrive is supposed to be working on an integrated app that will allow you to purchase, download, and read ebooks directly to mobile devices. It'll be released for Androids first, but they're also planning an iPhone app. The app would also let you download ebooks & audio books borrowed from libraries.

Since libraries use Adobe ADE for lending, I'm hoping the Overdrive app will work with any epub that works with Adobe ADE, including epubs purchased for Sony Readers.

Thanks, Zevs - I would love to know what Nate's source was. If memory serves, the Mac app was "coming soon" for-freaking-ever!
