Ditto on the dentist chair. One of the techs asked me how long I'd had mine since she just got a K2 and was wondering how durable they are. I've had two happy years with my K1 so far.

Then the dentist asked me when I was getting an iPad...

Bad habit: Reading "just for a second" at traffic lights.

Three weeks ago I was dressed like a pirate, hiding in the woods from the gypsies who were trying to capture me. Meanwhile, I was reading Nicholas Nickleby on my Kindle.

True story, I was staffing a camp for orphans in Western Ukraine. Most of the children I work with are Roma (gypsy) children. We were playing "Hunt the Pirates" and a bunch of the staff and I were dressed up. They were looking for us to put us in their prison.

Here is a major advantage to having a dedicated reader. Every orphan kid wants to play with and run off with my cellphone because they can play games or call their friends or even steal my minutes or phone card, but I don't have the same problem with the Kindle. Actual conversation translated from Russian/Ukrainian:

"What's that?"
"It's an electronic book reader."
"Is it a computer?"
"Nope, I just read."
"Does it have games?"
"No, no games. But 120 books so far."
"You have the internet?"
"No, not here." (in that remote campground there was no connection, so no internet)
"Oh... then what do you do with it?"
"I read books. Books in English."
"Mmm.. cool." Child walks away confused.

I have done it while I was doing it.

Yeah, I mean reading while doing that. Since she kept her eyes closed, and my V3 was on a stand on my bedside table, and I could easily reach the next-page button with my left hand, and the book was REALLY good...
I actually stopped reading after a few pages because I reached the end of the chapter.

I'm afraid I'm not good with cameras and never took them on any of my travels - I sort of regret that now but at the same time I saw so many people permanently looking through a lens finder that they never really experienced any of the places they were actually in. I did find this picture on this site which is close to how I remember it:
Below the clouds it's all jungle/forest, heavy rain and mud. Above the clouds the surface is like grit which is incredibly hard work to climb. As dusk fell you'd also get a red glow being reflected in the high clouds above the lava. Oddly enough there are people living in small villages on the side of the volcano. Imagine living in a tin shack, where it rains every day and the ground is always mud, then add the very real risk of either the volcano or the local army killing you at any moment. It was a beautiful place to see but a god awful place to live.

Nice , she must have been something !

Now imagine it the other way around.... Women secret: how we wish the Kindle, Nook or PRS-505 had an infrared function that would project the text on the ceiling, you have no idea ....

I get the same thing with my nieces and nephews (none of which took to reading quite like their uncle). Quite an advantage..

I havn't done it anyplace "Extreme" what I have done is used my reader "everywhere".

In my fav chair, sitting on my deck, in the kitchen waiting for dinner to finish.
In the car (wife ussually drives), at the doctors office, in the parking lot at Walmart. (while my wife runs in for *****)

The only "extreme" for me is putting it down, that takes extreme pressure, provocation, and willpower.

I was drifting along in my kayak completely immersed in, "Sometimes A Great Notion" (Ken Kesey) when the blast of a very menacing cruise ship that was barreling down on me jerked me back to reality.

(and yes, I took time to get my reader safely nestled into it's waterproof sack before beginning to paddle in a most earnest fashion - I have my priorities you know!)

I've read paperbooks anywhere I've been, and yes, at any thinkable moment (it was part of the scenario though, and not a sign of boredom ;-))

But I have been much more cautious with my e-readers. So the most extreme was I'd say in the pool on one of this floating device. Never again... I got so engrossed in the book I lost track of time and got a very, very painful sunburn...A paperbook would have turned too uncomfortable after a while, but with the e-reader, it was so comfortable, I really forgot where I was.

I read at my desk at work everyday, while sitting across from my boss. I have it on my desk beside my arm and I'm able to glance at it without her noticing (so far ).

Haha nice. What kind of job do you have? I say if the job is just sitting at a desk waiting for people to come in, doing a little reading is absolutely fair game!
