Oh, so it would cost B&N more to keep Fictionwise current, makes sense, I guess...still a shame.

Funny how new books on Amazon are getting bad reviews based solely on pricing!? - is that something to do with this new agency pricing? I read one article that blames Apple for pricing, but don't see how it is any better or worse than before, or was I just too complacent using Fictionwise ?

I just found ebooks.com, and it appears that all the new ebooks I want are there, in more formats and more affordable than Fictionwise ever was.....

The thing about Apple is that they insisted no one could undercut them, as I understand it. Which killed Fictionwise, because special discounts were their greatest appeal (that and their multiformat DRM-free shop). Which is perhaps why they never signed the agency agreements.

As for ebooks.com, they're obviously not too complete in their listings, because they have none of my books, either from Tor or from ereads. Just take that as a sample point.

People want one-stop shopping (or maybe two-stop) Amazon-style.

I wouldnt mind a BN type web retailer for the big publishers and a second site for all the rest.

Well, finally managed to find a few items to purchase and got my micropay balance down to $0.04 - so, time to request a refund since my membership goes to Oct. 2011. Have people still been successfully getting refunds on request?
