I'm much too tired to read through 6 pages, so let me give my two cents:

The law is "racist" because it encourages racial profiling. Giving police the choice to stop anyone they want and ask for ID, they're going to to stop Mexicans more. Whether that's called for is irrelevant, it's still profiling.

I don't agree with the law, but I usually don't agree with Arizona. Too dry.


EDIT: And another thing,
The process of becoming a citizen of America is made entirely of jumping through hoops and knowing as much about the nation as a history book. It's confusingly difficult, and nothing short of isolationism. We make sure immigrants are just how we want them, or they can't come. :/

I think that the majority of the people living legally in the US would vote for the same thing to happen in their state.

They'd vote to risk detention if some cop decides to stop them and they're not carrying proof of citizenship on them? I wouldn't. I'm not big on the idea of having to carry ID with me to run down to 7-11 or if I go jogging.

When looking at any law I think it's best to consider what the biggest powertripping asshat you can think of will do with it. Now imagine a bunch of kids skateboarding in a park rounded up and taken down tot he police station because they didn't have proof of citizenship on them. Then imagine someone walking while black in a rich neighborhood. Now imagine someone working on a doughnut shop who accidentally spills some coffee on a cop. Now imagine a reporter with an out of state ID poking around in some rual town run by some polygamous separatist types. Just accepting the inconvenience of having to present your papers on demand is quite bad enough but the way it is sure to be abused opens a huge civil rights can of worms.

How can anyone like the idea of being required to prove on demand at any time that they are innocent of illegal immigration or face arrest?

I'll tell you why they might vote for it. They think oh no it'll never happen to me except of course that it will eventually.

Because that is the only way to fix the problem.

I am pretty certain that is why almost every country out there requires proof.

It is self evident that you don't have to "read through 6 pages". You know what you know. They're racists, end of story. No need to listen to other view points.

But if you think that the Arizona law is draconian, please read a "little" of the Mexican laws.

A few snippets.

Article 34
"The Ministry of the Interior may lay to foreigners who enter the country, conditions it deems appropriate regarding the activities they will pursue, and the location or places of residence." Does that mean "what you can do and where you can live?

Article 37
"VII .- are not physically or mentally healthy in the opinion of the health authority" Anyone making such a law in this country would crucified.

Article 85
"The Ministry of Interior is responsible for registration and accreditation identity of all persons residing in the country and nationals residing abroad."
Article 86
"The National Population Registry aims to register every persons in the population, with the information needed to certify and accredit their identity".
Simple enough. Your papers, please. They are not in order, please come with us.


Do as I have just done. Check around the internet for hatred. The raciest stories in Spain, Germany, France. Even, pure as the driven snow, Mexico has its share of racial inspired beatings and murder.

I was going to post some of what the racial hate groups are saying but thought better of it. Some would try to foster it off as my view points.

The intense hatred building all over the world is staggering. And it is not relegated solely to race.

I cry at the utter stupidity of those that cheered on Ahmadinejad (at Columbia University) when he stated that Iran has no homosexuals.

Thankfully some booed shortly after this point.

Some gays, in Iran have lived long enough to be hanged.

Women are still stoned.

And the biggest complaint some have is that someone in Arizona may be asked to show ID. Check out the rest of this d#$#@ world.

I think that the worst case scenario won't happen since, like many of the laws passed to protect children from sex offenders, the law will have so many holes in it, that it will probably wind up pretty much ineffectual against the individuals it was meant to stop..

I don't concede the point but even if you were correct then I'd rather leave the problem unfixed then spend my time presumed guilty of illegal immigration until proven innocent.
