Is anyone else having problems adding documents to the reader with the BETA 2.0 release? No matter what I do, I cannot get it to recognise new documents!

It started when I had a message along the lines of "cannot create thumbnail". Since then, new documents added to the device do not show up on the file list whetehr in book or SD card mode.

Any ideas?

curbarthedog: Try switching off the indexing/thumbnail-creation in the preferences. And scan your SD card for errors, for example with Windows' ScanDisk.

Nope, no joy but thanks for the suggestion. The files are definitely on the card and they work (I can open them from the pc). It is as if they are not picked up by the indexing and therefore not listed in the various veiws even though they are clearly there.

Any idea on how to completely re-index the device? That may work.

Backup your data, then format the card. Install the firmware, boot and then copy your books over from the backup.

I was hoping for something a little bit wasier than that! Is there a single file that can be deleted?

I guess the first thing is, is this a bug with the firmware? Has anyone else come across it?

Yes, please do. If I read what you say correctly, the new renderer would in theory allow for further zoom than before. Please don't limit this.

Re the column rendering: does this mean that oeb-column-number: [integer] | auto; in the css won't have any effect? I'll try it and report back.

You can do the following:

1) In Advanced Settings, disable Automatic Thumbnail Generation
2) Delete global.db in the root of the card
3) Indexer runs, but doesn't create thumbnails

That should most likely do the trick.

You know, that's one of the things I like about irex. The developers look at the forums and offer answers.
I know there have been some difficulties with the DR1000 (and possible the others, I can't comment) but at least you feel, even if it goes quiet, that they are listening, unlike some other reader manufacturers.
Having said that, though, I do hope they listen and try at least to get the pdfs to be able to be exported With scribbles... Swapping between 2 firmwares is a right royal pain at present.

It just takes ages as far as I can tell. Mine was similar to yours, after 2 hours I gave up and reset , same again, reset, checked the SD card, reset, after a further hour it finally came to life.

There wasn't even a great deal (100 or so pdfs etc) on the card.

It would be better, if, for the first time, it doesn't index, but gives you the option to do it with a large warning. At present, unless you start with a fresh SD card you won't know what will happen.

before i restarted, i noticed that the contrast of the text was even worse than before, i have to say that this is the biggest problem, worse than the index one

A quick tip. Once the device has finished its initial thumbnail creatin and indexing (it really does take a very long time, you do need to be patient), make sure the creation of thumbnails is turned off in the setting. The thumbnails are created anyway when you open a new document if no thumbnail exists so this acts as a useful "not read that yet" indicator.

I have to agree with the other posters though, the contrast is quite a bit worse than the 1.7.1 software. Any chance of a contrast setting?

There seems to be a new beta fw for DR1000S on Irex's website: http://updates.irexnet.com/beta/dr1000s/. See the update-dr1000s-0408.zip file.

Well spotted This one is identical to the DR800 BETA we released today. It already fixes some of the issues that have been reported here, most notably the crash on Safely Remove SD.
