I love a lot of things about the iPad, and don't like a few other things. I see a lot of comments about the screen and flash, but I have a few folks should think about...
As a music player I hate Apple products because I hate iTunes. It is slow and I hate converting my music to their proprietary format. I'll put up with that due to the nice screen technology and other features, but it is my first negative on the product. I listen to music quite a bit during my travel (of which I do a lot due to my job). I know people love iPods and iTouch, but the only thing I like about them is their screen. I might be one of the few people who likes the Zune more for music. Another thing I wanted to bring up is the capability of this product to expand certain professional functions. My current job is developing electronic software for a major consulting company that deals with the Healthcare industry. An iPad is the perfect device for physicians and clinicians to carry around in a hospital to do work on charts, lab results, ordering and much more. The ease of the operating system and user interface will appeal to many healthcare industry professionals. Saving time and having portability is vital to these folks. Believe it or not, mutlitaking is not an issue, as single form-like applications are what they identify with. There are a ton of developers with iPhone OS experience just waiting to get their hands on it in hopes of making a fortune. This device will be a huge success for Apple. If you believe anything other than this, you are being silly. Will it be the best ebook reader? Maybe not. It isn't the best tablet or laptop either. Think about everything else it does and the big picture. Just so you know, I'm not even going to buy one. I have a great netbook right now, and I want something smaller for reading. I don't like e-ink, so my question for all of you is: What other small devices like the iPhone or iPad use similar screen technology? |

@coldsun...." It is slow and I hate converting my music to their proprietary format"
What do you mean by this? I have 40 gigs of mp3's that I use in iTunes and my iPhone.... Trust me, I'm not trying to start anything, I just don't understand what you mean..... |

Bremen,
By slow I mean the iTunes application on my PC. The device itself is very nice. I just prefer my Zune. I admit I haven't used a newer generation Apple for a while, but as far as I know it will convert the MP3 to a different format when moving it to the device. On the other hand, the Touch made for an awesome ebook reader when I had it. EDIT: I've been informed iTunes does not and has never converted MP3s to a proprietary format before transfer to the device. I was under the impression it did. My apologies for the misinformation and this actually might change my mind in getting an iPad or iPod Touch (I want something smaller to read on but with a high quality screen). stustaff - you may be right, I don't have recent experience with it. I do, however, have recent experience with iTunes and will comment as I see fit. I don't like the program and never have, over my longer than 5 years with it. You might even try reading my post to see what I said, instead of quoting another post by Bremen. Back to the subject at hand, which is the iPad. I may have to buy one just for the development possibilities. I disagree with anyone who says LCD devices can't be used for reading. I've been doing it for ten years. Last eye check was 20/20. I've been using monitors for a good portion of my life, and since I'm a developer I spend a great deal of time at my computer. I read on an assortment of LCD devices when I go to sleep at night. So, in my opinion, the iPad will make an awesome ebook reader. I just want something smaller with the screen quality it has. Last edited by ColdSun; 03-08-2010 at 11:11 AM. |

Okay.... but no it does not covert. I have my music library in MP3 format. There is no conversion to the iPhone... I use the drag and drop method, and it is all MP3.... anyway, I just didn't quite get what you meant.....
As far as iTunes, like most everything else (that people often argue over endlessly) it's just personal preference.... it's all good... |

anyway i apologise if i seemed a little abrupt, just frustrating me currently that a lot of people are making claims about things that are plain untrue or just uninformed. I did read your post i just Quoted bremen for ease as he had already quoted the relevant point i was replying to. It was just odd that you were saying you quite liked apple products but the reason you gave for not liking iTunes was something taht it doesnt do! yet you say you have over 5 years experience using it?? not sure how you never noticed? the Touch is a Nice device imo and have never had any real issues reading from it, if you find iTunes a little slow and bulky have a look at getting songbird for if you make that iPad Touch purchase. |

![]() iTunes would definately not stop me from getting an iPad. The size/form factor is really my only concern. I already have a couple nice netbooks for sofa surfing and want something more portable/small for travel and reading/listening to music. I might change my mind though. I'm something of a collector of these devices. My wife hates it. ![]() |

I dont like the iPad, i use multitasking alot, and i reallly like to watch a lot of videos on the web, (youtube, metacafe, google video, etc.). I accept it has maybe the most beautiful and responsive screen never made for a portable device, but i just hate using iTunes, sometimes im at my friends homes and i just want to transfer a large video from their PC´s but some of them dont have iTunes so i cant do it, i like the posibility of using de device as an external hardrive or flash memory. I like also USB ports or HDMI, i think Apple could have done something more complete.
This is what i think, they did the iPad so simple so they can sell it at $500 and not the initially $1000 estimated cost, and they use iPhoneOs because their processor could´nt handle MacOs smooth enough. I feel disapointed with the iPad just as many of people who spected more from this. |

ip address like 192.168.0.3:8888 and transfer 500Meg video to it in less than 2 minutes, you then access your iphone/phone in your own home and download it back to your pc... the downside is that wifi must always be available... |

Windows media player is able to sync exactly as I described in a fairly reasonable amount of time. Maybe if it's taking that long for you then you should consider buying a pc with a modern processor, etc.. just sayin

i do however suffer from fatigue when reading on backlit displays though, and that is why the ipad will be relegated to comics and graphic novels for us. |

I had an iPod Touch once, when it first came out, and i figured out how to use as a flash memory, but it was a pin in the ass to do every time i want to download something from the device, so i changed the ipod for something with a simple plug and play option. I think its gonna be the same with the iPad.
