Please share some real-world battery-life observations once you've used it for a bit. This is one of my deciding factors for devices like this.

Thanks!

I have been using my eDGe since friday and I love it. The ePaper screen is a lot like the one on the iRex 800, you have to use a stylus for it to be touch screen. This reduces the glare and give you much better contract.

One of the things I love about the eGDe is the ability to drag the style across a picture on the ePaper side and have it show up on the LCD side. I am getting ready to go to Disney World in June so I have a ePub travel guide and normally I would be stuck looking at the pictures and maps in greyscale, not anymore!

As to battery life, I haven't let my run off power for any longer than 3 or 4 hours, but with the LCD screen set to time out in 1 minute I am pleased with the battery life. In 3 or 4 hours I have used 25 to 30% of the battery. One thing to keep in mind I use the LCD side a lot. I use it to browse the web (Dolphin browser is great) and check my email.

I have been taking it to meetings and using it to take notes. I use the ePaper side with the stylus. There is a little bit of a delay when writing notes but It works just fine for me.

I will try to do a bit more of a formal write up as time permits.

What are the chances of getting a section for the eDGe?

Hello BillC44 and Welcome to MobileRead!

for sharing your impressions. The device really does look interesting and I am waiting for an opportunity to get my hands onto one over here in Europe some day.

For those outside of Canada/US who can't have an eDGe shipped to them, there are services that can give you a US address at which you can receive all kinds of mail. Then, they forward on to you where ever in the world you are.

It may not fit within the budget, but it's an option for those who have got to have one.

Yes, that would of course be possible. Thanks for the reminder .

But I would like to get a hands on impression from at least a few minutes of handling the device first before ...
(Although I don't have been strict with that rule with every part of hardware I've got ).

so, we ARE able to download/open/read secure Adobe PDF and secure Adobe ePub from fictionwise, correct?

I was about to buy 2 books to test, and then got to the point where they warn you about formats...LoL

Yes! I've opened secure ePub from Fictionwise. Haven't tried secured PDF but I'll have to try one from the library.

I'm intrigued. Are there any limitations to the annotation function similiar to the issues with the PRS-600?

My dream is to be able to quote ebooks directly into my blog. It sounds like this device coud do that: copy text from eInk side into browser, writeup blog post, submit form.

Also, how smart is the wifi driver? A lot of wifi enabled devices will chew through a battery while searching for networks. Can you disable the network interface easily?

so, in an email exchange with support, I was told that the only DRM'd content the eDGe directly supports is through their store specifically...non-DRM'd ePUB and PDFs are free reign, but they don't have anything in place to open secure books, at the moment.

and you save you'd done secure ePUB - I'm confused then, b/c I tried both secure PDF and ePUB and all I get is an acsm file...am I doing something wrong?

You have to have Adobe DE installed and authorized to your account on your PC. then it will open the acsm file and d/l the ebook file.

no, that's my problem...the eDGe has no idea what to do with it...but Bob's insights may have just cured the issue, I'm gonna give it a go and see what happens. Although, if it DOES work, then the eDGe tech support folks have some lines crossed...or I do...whatever...standby for test results.
