99.9% of tv/movies are already geared towards white males. I think it's a bit much to complain that there aren't any Dutch characters on tv. You should look up the term white male privilege |

At which point yea I can see the arguement "Well everyone has a princess but me" becomes a point for little girls. But still it's taken Disney almost a decade to round out the toyline a bit more. Which is deplorable. Last edited by Riocaz; 08-21-2009 at 03:05 PM. |

The only time I saw people of color was when I went to the red light districts. Not saying there aren't wealthy people of color in Belgium and Holland but...they aren't the majority. http://www.unbeknownst.org/privilege.htm My husband is a bit racist and that doesn't come from nowhere. edit: All this has been sorted out further down the thread. I'm against deleting my words but please ignore this. Feathers have been smoothed out, Amalthia and me had a misunderstanding, all is well with the world.
Wow, congrats. A solid base for your broad strokes of judgment. A city visit and a racist Flemish husband. Awesome. Last edited by acidzebra; 08-21-2009 at 04:54 PM. |

And I tried to point out that the issue of locking it up or getting rid of it has no bearing on the issue of whether or not it's censorship. That's just a decision on what is to be done with a book that you already have but no longer feel is worth keeping available for the general public. And if I haven't yet made my opinion clear, a book that is not kept on the shelf should either be disposed of or warehoused in case of future popularity. Warehoused books *might* be available by special request, but I could see that possibly being subject to an 'unpacking' fee. (For physical books, at least. Can't really see why eBooks should ever be warehoused.) |

there are areas of the United States that are very white as well with maybe 1% of other ethnic groups but it's much harder to see that if you're not there long enough. I'm coming from cities in the South like San Antonio, Austin, and Houston where the majority population is hispanic and black. Though the majority of people in power are white. Belgium looked white. Out of my husband's entire group of friends no one was black or indian or asian or anything but white. That's kind of telling. Last edited by Amalthia; 08-21-2009 at 03:35 PM. |

There is no "Flemish" part of the Netherlands. Could you have stayed here for 6 months without realising the difference between the Netherlands and Belgium? Or are you equating the Netherlands and Belgium in some way?
