Edit: just thought of this: What if they decided to make these two models official now, because of the leaks, but maybe there are other models too, that haven't been leaked yet that will be announced at the time they really wanted to announce the new models? I think the next reader will have larger screen, I cant see a reason to make a 6-inch reader without wi-fi and then one with wi-fi. It is not a huge cost to put in a wi-fi chip. I think that the 600 looks really nice, too bad I am a european,,, (anyone else who wants to vote in USA into the european union?
![]() I am expecting sony to come out with a new top of the line reader, (i belive so because of the modelnumber 600 is lower than 700 which it is replacing) and then I just might motivate myself to take a trip over "the pond" and get me a reader |

I agree, seems a lot of people enjoyed the light option. I'm guessing that it was a matter of cost and not being able to find a perfect solution without compromising the contrast of the screen. The light was definately something only Sony had that made it really stand out from the competition. I think they are going for affordable and for functions that everyone can enjoy, like a clearer screen. Perhaps they will find a way to make lighting work in the future without adding to the cost of the unit. I also think a lot of people saw that the 300 doesn't come with SD Card/Memory Stick slot. Again cost. I don't think we'll see a lot of new tech in these two units. Seems like Sony is cutting the fat and sticking with things that will keep the cost down while mainting features that the majority of people would like to have. I mean, it seems like they even cut down on the buttons for the 300 compared to the 505. |

Just my luck. My PRS-500 has been dead with a broken power switch for a month or so. I saw an ad for PRS-505 at FRYs for $239. So I rushed over and got one this past Saturday. So my luck holds true that they announce the new models on Tuesday. So far I'm very happy with my 505.
The 300, as I read one report has no MP3 playback capability, no SD cards and I suppose there are other limitations as well. The 600 seems to be more on a par with the 700 model. I do have to say, that in my opinion the cover supplied with the 505 is a step down from the one originally supplied with the 500. Time will tell if I need to get one of the new ones in the future. I believe that Sony is releasing in August because of all the other 5" readers out there or soon to be out there so they can get into that market before it's too late. And as long as they have the 600 ready as well, why not.
