It's seems that it's Weltbild : http://www.weltbild.de/3/15862004-1/...inklusive.html
They do 19% of reduction on the normal price. I don't know if Bookeen is really happy about this.. (And sony seems to want to out stock their current reader by lowering the price (ie solding with low, or negatives margins) |

But you do go to the site to make sure some of it is working at least. And in this case that's all it would have taken to find out none of it was working. That's unacceptable.

What makes the Opus so special given that you can get the Cool-er (with ePub and a 6" screen)?

Maybe because for the cool-er we can say :
But test your device to make sure some of it is working at least. And in this case that's all it would have taken to find out none or a lot of it was working. That's unacceptable, largely more than breaking a website for the weekend The Bookeen's website worked for some times before the break, they may be not at work when the site broke, but still works when they modify it. And I think that the Opus is really more polished than the Cooler that is sold by a company that have less than 1 year, 0 year before in the eBook market for it's founder and their only product is a rebranding of a chinese hardware and software manufacturer. JSWolf: you bought a Sony, and seems to have an aversion against Bookeen. What do you do here since it's about Bookeen? If you want a cool-er go to the cooler thread, this is not here. So from the point of view of PDF/ePub display the differences between these devices is presumably going to be small. The number of font sizes is one differentiator, and another might be the ability to zoom PDFs and trim PDF margins. Finally, the library navigation software will be different (e.g. folders or not, thumbnails or not). In the end, software stability might be the major differentiator. So far, Jinke is the company that turns around bug fixes the fastest but Sony appears to have solid firmware with relatively few bugs (but no bug fix releases). |

And even if for some people Bookeen is actually the lamest about fix, netronix will be at a lower position... I hope that I'm wrong, but what I see from them doesn't confort me...

I wish Bookeen well in the sales of their Opus. *I* will not buy one. It costs FAR TOO MUCH for what is being offered. Especially when I take into account the more than $1,000 I've already spent on three Netronix-based ebook readers. Had Bookeen offered these for under $200 - say around $150 - I might have been tempted. But not now.

So has anyone ordered an Opus yet? I'm anxious to read the reviews when they arrive.
The contoured case design should be less susceptible to the screen breaking we've been seeing from the case twisting. Combined with the smaller screen it should (in theory) be more rugged. Did Bookeen say if they're planning on releasing deluxe covers for it? I see it comes with a slip cover but I can't see using it without a cover. I'm too much of a klutz and it looks like it would slip out of my hands. |

delphidb: $150 would not cover all the hardware of the device. Maybe the Opus will go to $200 one day, I don't know, why not? but actually until PVI/E ink have a monopolistic position on the production of ePaper screen, I really doubt that the screen price will go down... (and the screen is the most expensive part of the device. I heard price from $70 to $100 for a 6inch PVI E ink display. And the LG counterpart will not cut the price, since there is a conflict of interest between E ink and PVI.
Actually, for $150 you may get a PCB and a screen without anything else, and I'm not sure that I am right... It could be more expensive. |

I think the Opus is absolutely beautiful and I almost talked myself into it, but eventually decided I couldn't take another round of being able to get a response from Bookeen if I had problems again. I'm kind of glad their website *was* down, since it sort of solidified that decision.
