Wow, 22 - 27 per WEEK?

I WISH I could read that many books a week! I think the most I've ever read in a week is probably 10 and I did pretty much nothing but read and sleep!

Well, at least smudged I guess!

When I read in bed I usually lay on my side with the reader leaning against a pillow so the couple of times I've fallen asleep while reading, my reader has not fallen. Whew!
I put my reader on a tether that way when I fall asleep I won't drop it.

That was when I was young, now it's more like two books every three days, sometimes one per day.

Between the train (sometimes I take a local just to get time to read) and my insomnia. I read about a book a day (3-4 hours). Now, these are fluffly little 250 page romance novels, with a few mysteries and scarry stories thrown in between.

so do i, and i also make sure to turn towards the wall so it couldn't accidentally fall on the floor () but i guess it is sometimes propped too close to vertically. since it only fell onto the other pillow it's not really a problem.

i'm paranoid too, but sometimes i'm also reeeeeeaally tired, apparently. when i first got it i almost never took it out of the house, i was afraid it would get broken in my bag. even now i am extra careful when i carry it around with me. it has a special place on the table next to my bed and i always make sure to place it screen side down, just in case one of the cats is passing by there...

wow !! i read ridiculous quantities when i was in school too but i don't think i ever managed THAT many !! maybe close, during summer break. i wish i could still read that much, but now it's nowhere near so many.

I don't keep track of how many books I read per year. I often wonder how folks keep such an accurate count.

I used to participate in a forum that had a 'book club' and one of the stickied posts was a log of books for the year. I thought it was a kind of neat thing to do, keeping track of books like that, so I have a post in another forum where I list all the books I read as I read them.

I do it just for fun and I don't have any interest in keeping the lists or using them for anything useful. I just like to see how many books I read (or don't read) every month.

I see. I keep track of the titles I've read, but not the time frame. I only track titles so I don't accidentally buy a book I've already read.

It's funny, I was writing about that in the French forum about 30 seconds ago! I think I should start keeping a log of the books I read, with titles but also with thoughts about the books.
I recently realized that there are many books I read younger that I have no recollection of now, so I'm planning on re-discovering authors at the moment. Keeping a log could help my memory quite a bit! (I'm just 27, what will it be in 30 years!)

I can read a full novel in a week easy, and I read a lot. So, 50+ books for me is entirely possible, but that's just a guestimate. I don't keep an actual count of the books I've read either.

9 Days in and the poll is closed!!! In 2008, I read 140 books. So far in 2009, I have completed 58 books. Of these, 31 were paper books and 27 were electronic.

I keep a text file on my laptop and update it each time I finish a book. For example, here's the entry for the last book I read in May:
Quote:
53. Once Bitten, Twice Shy, Jennifer Rardin (26-31 May, Kindle) (Fa) 368 pages : 17,503
So this tells me I started reading the book on the 26th of May and completed it on the 31st and I read it on my Kindle. It's a Fantasy book and the paper version had 368 pages. That took me to a total of 17,503 pages read year-to-date. For electronic books, I also have another entry documenting the source of the book:
Quote:
53. Once Bitten, Twice Shy -- purchased 1 May 2009 @ Amazon (free)
Quarterly, I post a summary of what I've read to a blog I keep, including paper/electronic ratio and totals by genre. I like being able to look back and see what I read when.

i started keeping track last year, following a comment by someone here (it might have been you, elsi). my system is very basic but it's interesting to see how many books i read. but originally i was motivated to do it because i have a terrible memory for names and titles, and i remember some books i had read in the past and wanted to re-read, but i have no idea what the book is called (it was a library book, and i've not been able to find it at the library, despite searching).

i'm still looking for that book, actually. hopefully now that i keep a list i won't ever have that problem again (and, as a bonus, i can accurately answer when someone asks me how many books i read in a year, which i would have been incapable of estimating on my own ). i should have started this years ago.

This thread inspired me to investigate my own reading. I bought my Sony reader 29/12/08. Of the 169 titles currently installed (many came free with the reader):
52 (31%) have been read so far
4 ( 2%) are in-progress
31 (19%) are on the 'must-read soon' list
80 (48%) are on the 'must read someday' list

There's a few pbooks not included here. Keeping track of what I've read isn't a problem - I can use Calibre as an aide-memoire, but so far the brain's doing a fairly good job of remembering. This may of course not be the case some years down the line...
