Kaz, the egg on pizza is kcrazy. It's just sort of standard in Rome, of all places. Shouldn't they know how to make pizza just naturally born to it??

It's a chopped boiled egg, piled in the middle, on top of the cheese and stuff after it is cooked. Yep, just a pile of boiled egg on top of a pizza. Why??????

We make homemade pizza every couple of weeks. My favourite topping at the minute is a mix of fresh tomatoes and sun-dried tomatoes with feta cheese. The spouse and the boy put anchovies on their half (so it won't contaminate mine).
that sounds delicious ! no anchovies for me please.

do they promise to get it there in under 30 minutes ?

Wasn't there a Chicago meet-up last November? I seriously think there should be another one, over pizza, in December so I can come too.

I have seen it done that way, but that's not ideal (it's likely done that way so you can pre-prepare the egg). The ideal way is to drop it whole on the pizza, and lightly and briefly stir it so that it still retains yolkishness towards the centre of the pizza, and spreads to white to about half way out. Well, that's the way I like it, and the better pizza places do it (but rarely the "gourmet" places - though I have seen "quail eggs" offered on such a pizza).

Hmm, that doesn't sound quite as nice, but I've never tried it so I can't really say. That's not how it's done here though, as mentioned above.

The Loved One does a nice homemade pizza, just using larger Lebanese bread as a base.

Cheers,
Marc

So is the deep dish is typically eaten "unfolded" or with utensils?
I don't get the eating style fixation either. I try to stay totally neutral, I love NY style and Chicago style pizzas. I have eaten plenty of both, in both cities.

My personal favorite is NY style - thin crust, salty and with that translucent layer of grease. Whenever I fly to NY I would make a point to stop at Grimaldi's in Brooklyn, I love that stuff.

I also love the Chicago style deep dish with that buttery crust. This is a much bigger time investment and it's usually a special occasion. Must include sausage.

BTW I never fold my pizza.

Grimaldi's pizza looks delicious! I agree with you though -- thin crust or thick crust, NY or Chicago -- just give me a good well designed pizza and I'm happy.

We have locally, and thanks to our Turkish friends, a Donner Meat Calzone. This is your regular Calzone, pizza topping, cheese, pizza sauce, but crammed full of Donner Meat and hot chillis, ground spicy beef, pepperoni's and salami. It's delicious, especially when you're drunk

I hope you meant Döner and not Donner.

WDE.

*edit* I checked and donner, doner and donair are all acceptable, without a Capital "D".
