It's so hard choosing favorites! Here are some that left such good impressions on me that I am now buying them for my daughter.

Nancy Drew
A Wrinkle in Time
Number the Stars
The Giver
A Little Princess
A Secret Garden
Ginger Pye
the Dr. Doolittle books
Mr. Popper's Penguins
A Little Princess
Harry Potter (started in middle school and grew up with Harry!)

I thinkmy favorite was the Little House on the Prairie series. I carried the entire boxed set in the car with me wherever we went, until I had read them all. I was the first series I ever read and owned.

My favorite early readers were just about anything Dr. Seuss (for the rhymes and cool drawings), and Richard Scarry (for the individual captions and the hilarious vehicles).

That would be "childrenerized" versions of the stories in The Bible. Didn't read that much back then. Wish I could say I did, but it wouldn't be true.

Anything by Dr. Seuss to start out with. My mom often told me I drove her crazy with his rhymes. We'd go to the public library often and my favorites to check out were his books. Of course since I couldn't really read back then she got the job of reading them aloud to me. lol. Then there was Danny Dunn and Encyclopedia Brown and Treasure Island when I was older.

Do you mean the Bible Story books by Arthur S. Maxwell? I still have a complete set though it's been awhile since I read them.

I can't choose a favourite childhood book, but I read the entire Secret Seven series a few times through (and many other Enid Blyton's books).

I do remember being incredibly fascinated by the plot from a book I took out from the library; a girl finding an old doll that was kept under the floorboards of an attic. I did not make the attempt to remember the name and it bothered me for a few years before I googled the plot, and the book seems to be Norma Kassirer's "Magic Elizabeth".

I appeared to have gotten my memory of the plot jumbled up, and I wish I can read that book to be sure but it's not in my library. Maybe it was the wrong title.

I love Chronicles of Narnia to bits. Even as an adult, I still have to have my monthly readings of the series otherwise I'll just wilted and die. And it's interesting to note that quite a few people here have the Horse and His Boy as their favorites because... It's mine too! With Dawn Treader as a close second.

Besides that, I loved Mallory Towers, the St Clare's series and the Naughtiest Girl series, all by Enid Blyton. I never got to study in a boarding school so I practically devoured those books. Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley were good too, though I by far preferred the former.

And oh yes, the Three Musketeers by Alexander Dumas! I re-read that book so much it is practically in tatters right one and my grandfather had to tape it back. I have the ebook version now, but I refuse to part with the paperback for sentimental reasons. And I had suuuuch a huge crush on Athos back then.
