It's all in their heads. I tested my K1 versus the new K2 we got and the k1 was consistently faster in screen changes, even if I purposely pressed the K2's button first and heard it click before pressing on the K1's button. The ONLY exception was for graphics. The faster chip and extra memory (some of which is no doubt reserved for graphics processing) meant that the K2 could do graphics pages faster, every time. Since most complaints are due to graphics pages, it makes sense to spend any tweaking time there, where gains are noticeable, rather than on text, where they are not (except if they speeded up topaz redraws when you are quite a ways into the book).

I've jut installed 2.0.2. via USB (no whispernet available at home or office). Don't notice change in page-turn speed, but do notice an apparent improvement in the speed of cursor movement. Seems less clunky than on 2.00 or 2.01, tho still needs improvement. I haven't seen a topic on this question--do others find it awkward/slow to move the cursor to a word you want to check in the dictionary?

Cheers, oj

Yeah, it's a bit awkward to move the cursor to the desired word but it's more accurate. On the K1 you'd scroll up to the line containing the word press in the the roller and then choose from a list of words on that line. One less step on the K2. Plus the short dictionary definition is at the bottom of the page on the K2, on the K1 you go to another page.

When my other Kindle 2 got the update yesterday, my two topaz books that I checked opened way more quickly, going from about 11-15 seconds down to between 5 and 6 seconds. That was true whether it was clicking into them from the home screen or coming from sleep into the book.

...now I've activated my replacement Kindle (for the other Kindle which had a relatively minor defect), and I can't get it to update...

...with my other one, all I did was turn WhisperNet on and then put it to sleep, and within a couple minutes, it started updating. So far, that hasn't worked with my replacement one, even after my taking it outside and putting it to sleep for like 10 minutes.

...though...now that I've double-checked...the replacement Kindle 2 (v2.0) can pull those books up in about the same time as the v2.0.2-updated Kindle 2...Now I'm confused. Maybe the 11-15second times had something to do with that original kindle 2 having had maybe 20-30 books on it, both purchased ones and ones I loaded myself...

...hmmmmm....

What I was hoping for, and haven't seen with the new update is a fix for the ghosting... There was a rumor that the new firmware was doing more of a full screen refresh during page turns but I'm not seeing it, and I'm still seeing ghosting..
