So you're going to punish an author for a statement made by the AG, when the author might not be aware of the statement, and might not even know that the Kindle even exists? How exactly is the author supposed to know why he is being boycotted?

Generallly boycotts are accompanied by letter writing and publication of articles. As I recall the catholic boycott of Waldenbooks, there was no ambiguity.

Have you ever listened to Brian Jacques and crew reading aloud Eulalia? It is a real animated wonderful experiance. Also Wrinkle in Time being read aloud by auther. This is way different then the demo I heard of TTS from K2. Both are worthy of value but very different in experiance and should be treated differently.

Not worth organizing a boycott over a robot voice, also no point in getting worked up about it until you have it in your hands and see if its worth it

If you were not, than not only was my point not disproved - you are being obtuse. I am neither catholic nor much of a Waldenbook customer, but I was certainly aware of the boycott. |

The notion that people would boycott all Authors Guild members because the Guild took a position they didn't like on one issue boggles the mind. All one can say in that case is, so long, and thanks for all the fish.

As a point of information, the Guild stands up for the rights of authors on all kinds of issues. I don't agree with them on every single thing. Why should I expect to? I don't even agree with myself on everything. Nor do I expect all of the membership to have a sophisticated understanding of ebooks and new technologies. (That will come in time, I hope.) I doubt that the Guild will get much traction on this one. But I don't think it's a bad thing to have an open discussion about it. A large number of writers belong to the Authors Guild, BTW, but nowhere near 99%, I think. |

People who don't realize their actions or positions are unacceptable to their customers get mind boggled when called to account EVERY time. So no surprise whatsoever. |

You might as well say you won't accept a package from UPS because you don't like the position of the Teamsters Union in a contract negotiation. It's your right, of course. Have at it. And with that, I am unsubscribing from this devolving thread. I'm sure someone will tell me if anything important happens. Last edited by starrigger; 02-15-2009 at 07:52 PM. |
