I guess the sentence was to mean "not having to have an external light source for reading is one the most nice features in e-readers".
Although, if wanting to be cherry-picking, also the scratch-resistant glass layer can be a tier that slightly might decrease crispness iirc (no scratch resistant glass would mean having to use a cover that weights 100/135 gr).

Another modern heresy to eradicate (I sound like an inquisition ) is no front light on the devices. What a dumb idea!
No frontlight would be a dealbreaker for me. I like to read in a dimly lit room in the evening or at night. I hate brightly lit rooms when I want to relax. As to reading in daylight... currently we have about 4 hours of daylight here.

I don't use a cover. When not reading, I keep my ereaders in sleeves.

The distance added by the frontlight layer also makes the text a tiny bit less sharp, so PQ improves a little by removing it, too. The differences aren't huge, but some people do care about them.
There is a solution that does not take away the front light. Use IR touch like the Aura H2O did and forget a capacitance touch layer. That's why I said to use the H2O form factor. That would make the screen look even better and you keep the front light.

This is the exact lineup that we want. (With the possible upgraded Elipsa, as well.) And I just don't get why Kobo won't give it to us? All they need to do is release the Libra with Carta 1300 and the Sage with Carta 1300 and a better CPU/battery combo. They're leaving money on the table.
I agree. I also want this lineup. Take my money already!

I can't stand a sleeve. I fond a cover my nicer. Plus I find the cover makes my Libra 2 easier to hold.

I want built-in buttons, not a separate device.

Be thankful you'd have the option of buttons. That makes the H2O form a good thing. It gives those who do not want buttons no buttons and those that do can buy the buttons.

A separate device is the same as no buttons for me. I can't use it.

A new Kobo with the lopsided form factor and physical buttons. Sorry, no symmetrical shape for you.

No, we don't go for the H2O form, because it has no buttons. A bluetooth remote doesn't replace buttons.
