Or, if you want to have a real testbed, spin up a VM using Hyper-V (another Windows feature) and install Calibre and DeDRM. Then, take a snapshot. After that, install K4PC or whatever else you want. If you don't like something, revert to the snapshot and try again. |

You could try using KFX Input which seems (IMO) to do a better job of converting KFX to ePub than a calibre conversion. My only issue is that it only does 1 file at a time which isn't that big of an issue anymore since I don't purchase as many Amazon books as in the past.

Caught me a bit off-guard pulling the D&T option early. However, Alpha with earlier Kindle version flawless for remaining items.

Surely Kobo know exactly how their bread is buttered.
I shouldn't imagine they have quite the nonchalance of Amazon or flexibility. A lot of Kobo customers would be disgruntled Amazon Kindle ones. They wouldn't want those to think they are better off going back to Amazon. I think their price matching policy says it all. I'd certainly go back to buying my ebooks at Amazon if I had to, so long as DRM could still be removed. Failing that, I'd probably mostly give up on buying ebooks altogether ... exceptions would be Smashwords, BookFunnel etc and direct from an author. In any case I have more than enough physical books and ebooks to tide me over for my remaining lifetime. So I'd just stop buying and wait things out. I've got a huge Project Gutenberg resource, which I started collecting long before I got an acceptable ereader device. |

I have been able to get the Windows Kindle app method working. We will see if the “don’t update the app” setting holds this time. Interesting, I did not change my serial number from my paper white device, and did not update the kfx plugin or any other. It just worked. Weird. But I’m happy for the moment
