I read novels on the Sage (real reflowable ebooks). The Nxtpapers are only for stuff that doesn't work on a Sage (or Libra; I have Libra and Libra 2). The Nxtpaper 40 is a phone and replaces my 4.7" P47L and 5" Sony PRS-350. I can't understand why they discontinued the superior (if you only want mono) Libra 2. I've now given away the reMarkable and Elipsa. No-one is interested in the Kindle DXG (too poor at 150 dpi, far too slow for PDFs and only basic old Mobi / KF7 ebooks). I have the official covers for Nxtpaper 11 and Nxtpaper 14, otherwise they are too awkward to hold. I'm off now to read on the Sage. I use the original Libra to read out loud as the buttons for page turn are 100% perfect and reliable. Last edited by Quoth; 12-03-2024 at 04:34 PM. |

So far I love my Colour Kobo. What about you?

It’s sort of par for the course on this forum. In fact, I was surprised there were so many positive posts in a row without interruption. I’m glad I started this thread and that so many other KLC lovers posted. The nay-sayers aren’t wrong for disliking the KLC (and Clara Colour), but we’re not wrong for liking it either. Hold your head up high! But not too high. It’s hard to read that way. Last edited by Cootey; 12-05-2024 at 12:18 AM. |

Ahem. Well, anyway. I still love my KLC even if the battery life isn’t so hot, but then again, I might be using it to death.

I bought the Clara Colour, thinking to replace my Clara HD. Now I'm using them both. This is significant in that in almost every case where I've bought the shinier, newer version of something, I quickly stopped using the previous model. My gut feeling is that the Clara Colour isn't worth the purchase.
The Colour is nice when there are color illustrations in the book I'm reading, but the murky gray background when reading plain B&W text is a turnoff. I have to use the light to gain enough contrast for my aging eyes to read without strain. The HD is more hackable, as well. It was not difficult to replace the original 8 GB micro sd card with a 32 GB card. It holds more books than I've accumulated since I started reading ebooks well over 20 years ago, on a Palm T3. My Clara Colour may still wind up being sold on eBay. The jury is still out...l |

I got a solid two weeks between 100% and 20%, but that was the first two weeks, I was fiddling with settings, downloading way too many books, generally playing with it more than usual. I'm confident that will improve as my usage changes to simply reading.

From what others have said, one reason the KLC battery may not be so great is because of the need to keep the light brighter then the Libra 2. And the light is on when you would not have it on for the Libra 2.

I like my KLC, but I have not tried any other fake-ink reader before.
As for the discussed battery life, the battery seems to last ok. I charge it once a week or so when it goes below 30%. With only 6-16% light on when darkness reading, it seems to last much longer. I really like to use the warm light and also dark mode, it's more comfortable for the eyes. I just wish they used a full multicolored LED, because why not, it's so cheap. Then I could have gone full red light for the darkness reading. |

That may be the case for some people, but I tend to keep the light down since I mostly use my KLC late at night or in bed. For example, I was sick with the flu for the last four weeks and read a lot in bed with the light down. You burn through your battery charge with such extended use. That’s just normal, but I do have to charge the KLC far more than my Elipsa, or more than I ever did my Clara HD. But I don’t think that needing to charge the KLC every two weeks or so because I’m using it to death is a bad thing. My Kindle Paperwhite 4 rarely gets used and still needs to be charged every few weeks. |

Coming from a Gen 1 Kobo Aura H2O, the Libra Colour is a revelation.
In the end the H20 stopped holding its charge and became too clunky and unresponsive. The Libra Colour is much lighter and the square format fits the hand better. The buttons for turning pages are a welcome addition too. I tread about the resolution, but I don't have a problem with it. What I do have a problem with is getting Calibre and the Kobo to work nicely together. Back when I was using the H2O it was just a matter of hitting a sync button in Calibre and any changes were synced to the Kobo. What the hell is the process for passing any changes and additions to the Libra Colour. Why is it so hard? |

More complexity seems to bring with it more problems. I've updated Calibre, installed a couple of plugins like Kobo Touch and Kobo Utilities and for DRM Obok and the DeDRM Plugin, but in the end had to do a factory reset before everything worked. With the H2O, the library was organized in folders, with the format LN, FN. I wanted to do the same but I now realise the Libra works differently. After the reset I had problems logging into my account and in the end the easiest solution was to create a new account. Then I encountered the "no space on device" message despite the fact the Libra was empty. A little reading and I soon discovered the way to clear the Calibre cache is to log out using the Control + q keys. Restart and it's all good. The other thing I have noticed is that the Libra likes to take its time. It takes a while and a restart or two to process new books and a lot longer to recognize collections and series - like they didn't show up until the next morning. Adding a lot of books in one go also seems to be problematic. My library contains about 3300 books and if I try to add them all in one go, the Libra has a dummy spit. |

The h2o and Libra work exactly the same way; Kobo use essentially the exact same f/w across all eink devices
