He tested the power consumption on a brandnew device. You can't actually make a serious statement until you have charged the battery a few times. But it can show a tendency. He calculated that a battery charge lasts ca. 16,7 hours, what I find perfectly fine.

I don't like the gradient, but you can't avoid that with this form factor. It is my main concern, though. I absolutely hate uneven lighting.

On this we are in full agreement. I find the horizontal gradient particularly annoying because it is in the reading direction (I can cope with a slight vertical gradient). This is why I didn't keep the Kobo Forma, Kobo Libra and Kindle Oasis 3. The Kobo Libra 2 seemed to correct this negative tendency in my eyes. And I expected the same from the PocketBook Era. Right now my feelings are negative. We'll see when I get the device. I look forward to your comments on this aspect because I agree with you in your assessment of the illumination of other devices.

However, each device varies. The photographs posted on Facebook show reasonable lighting. Also, one should not be too hasty in making assessments without having the device in front of one's eyes.

This is my main issue with "square" eReaders. I haven't physically tested one of these "side-light" ones, but I've seen quite a few pictures illustrating the gradient. That's why I was hoping that, if PocketBook came out with a 7" reader, they would keep their HD 3-like design. The pictures in the review didn't seem that bad, but it's hard to tell from pictures alone.

If this reader is any thing like other PocketBook readers, I think 16.7 hours will be on the low side -- unless you're listening to music while reading or using TTS.

Just set up my Pocketbook Era and spent half an hour getting it connected to my WiFi :/

Just in case someone runs into the same issue:
If you're running a RADIUS-WiFi (wifi login with username & password instead of just password), the Era will request TLS1.3 so the server either needs to support that or offer proper fallback to 1.2. FreeRADIUS apparently, by default, blocks TLS1.3 requests.

What a nice device the Era is. Good build quality, very nice buttons, the device feels good in the hand. But ... Must there always be a but? *sigh*

My Era has a noticable horizontal gradient. I still try to figure out if it bothers me enough to return the device. I know one can adapt to this, but honestly I don't want to. You can't really see it in the photo, but it's there.

The next thing I dislike are the artifacts of the previous pages. They are already visible, if only slightly, after one page turn.

The G-Sensor is a nightmare. One time it works, the next time it freezes in one position. I disabled it, because it was so annoying.

On the good side, page turns with the buttons are very fast. Night mode is possible if you use KoReader. The contrast is also good, but you have to put two devices next to each other to see the benefits of Carta1200.

Overall this could be my favourite device, if only the lighting was better.

I will spend the rest of the evening with Mr. Steve Hackett on his Seconds Out Tour, I'm sure that will lift my mood.

I can adapt or replace a reading programme, but not the lighting. I'm afraid the horizontal gradient in the lighting is going to be an insurmountable inconvenience for me. It is already on its way to Spain. I will check it in a few days.

Sorry to hear about the gradient issue. That was my biggest worry. I don't understand the ghosting on this new of a screen. I wonder if you got a defective unit? I remember when the Formas first came out they had a lot of screen issues, but they got them mostly fixed. At any rate I'm sorry to hear this.

Thank you. I haven't seen any other complains about ghosting, so maybe I actually have a defective unit. I hate sending devices back and forth, therefore, i don't know yet if I will replace the device or simply return it.
