MicroUSB is on the way out no matter what anyone thinks. But, having both older and newer devices means more cables.

All my external HDDs (2-3 years old) use microUSB. My phone, OTOH, is USB-C (3,5 years old).

Welp...I just paid full retail for a Kobo Libra H20 a week ago lol. But, I knew it was a 2 year old device so I knew a refresh would come eventually...but so soon??

Thing is, I LOVE my Libra H20. The asymmetrical design is great and easy to hold. Text pops off the screen compared to my old fuzzy, contrast-free 1st gen Paperwhite (or I guess 5th gen Kindle Paperwhite).

My initial reaction was to return it and wait for the Libra 2, then I learned the new device is significantly heavier - 215g vs 192g. So, even heavier than my Kindle (213g). The decreased weight of the Libra H20 is noticeable, and appreciated. I don't want to go back to a heavier ereader. And some of you folks are saying it'll be thicker too - I'm infatuated with the Libra H20's form factor.

I have until the 28th to return it, but I don't think I'm going to. The new Libra is heavier and otherwise doesn't seem like that big a refresh. I don't need audiobook capability - I use my phone. USB-C, yeah it'd be nice, but it's not that big a deal given the infrequency of needing to charge it. Memory - eh, current memory is fine. I don't see much use in having much more than 12-15 books on the device at a time. Plus, it's $10 more. The Libra H20's page turn buttons are perhaps less than perfect aesthetically, but they're just fine.

Am I missing some key factor here? Will the new Carta 1200 screen be that much quicker in page turns and contrast in real world use? I'm torn, but I've already formed a bit of an emotional attachment to my current Libra...

That was an assumption on my part, as I would think Amazon would be promoting the newer screen in its product description.

Did Kobo just ditch what made the Forma great?
I hope the new processor is worth it but the Libra2 does not seem to get it.

Yeah. I was hoping for a better Forma, not a heavier and less ergonomic device. Still, hopefully the Sage has some advantages over the Forma, like speed and screen quality. Current Kobos are somewhat sluggish (I guess not so noticeable otherwise, but certainly noticeable when compared to the Kindle Oasis).

I would not get a new Libra if the old one still works perfectly. Moreover, while the Sage has a newer and supposedly faster processor, the new Libra doesn't. So you'd trade the weight and ergonomics for a possibly slightly better screen (and that's not yet certain). Now if you wanted a larger screen, the Sage might be an option. But if 7'' is optimal for you, stick with your Libra.

Gotta say I'm irritated that both of these have buttons while the Elipsa didn't.

I only find the Kobo sluggish when it's using the Adobe software,, (epubs and pdfs).. when I use Kepub and CBZ files, I would consider it equal, (actually, a bit snappier in the case of Kepub.) Disclaimer: My last Kindle was the Oasis 2, I've never compared to the Oasis 3.

None of this will be a comfort for people who use the Kobo to read PDF's, but e-ink devices in general were never well suited for that task. I hear great things about KoReader in that regard.

Of the two new devices, it seems only the Sage has Dropbox integration; that feature is not listed for the Libra 2.

In Canada, the Libra 2 is $179, the PW5 is $150. Not sure of the USA pricing. As such, the Libra up north is no longer competitive. Not that I would ever buy a Kindle I couldnt JBreak.

In addition, the new kobos are generating a lot more posts here than the PW5. Are we seeing a shift on MRead?

Bought the Sage.

I really really hope it’s fixed the main problem of the Forma, which is that blasted dark strip on the screen. Love the rest of the Forma, and Kobo’s software blows out Amazon’s but it’s very hard not to be distracted by that.

If they haven’t, I guess I’ll just continue to be stuck on the Oasis.
