They really did make this feature highly useful. From opening hidden folders (%localappdata%), to creating/editing environment variables... i use the search feature as a shortcut to something nearly all the time.

At first, like you, I really could not accept having all those tiles on the start menu, but after having used Windows 10 for a few years now I am starting to add them back.

They can be quite useful as shortcuts to programs that you don't use that often - so don't want pinned to the taskbar - but often enough to make having a shortcut there worthwhile.
