"My Bad" === a sleazy way to get out of actually apologizing.
"No problem" (when someone asks for help, or they thank you) --- it sounds so dismissive to me. Can't you just say, "I'll help you" or "You're welcome" ??? I STILL hate "invite" as a *noun*, even though it is now accepted everywhere. Oooo -- I almost forgot! "I'm sorry, but ... " You know you damn well are not a bit sorry! +1 on "No Problem".
I hope the "+1" phrase isn't one you hate. ![]() |

Also "Pimp my" ... whatever. (Not used so much anymore; although for a while it was truly ubiquitous. And truly annoying!)

lo and behold. Okay when it stood out as obviously, and obviously intended to be, anachronistic. Completely worn out now. Like "whilst."

I thought the word of the year last year was "outlier."
I don't know where that came from, but I saw it in news articles all the time. |

I agree with all of the above except for 'gifted'. I once worked for a grants program and we would use 'gifted' in an official context to allow the recipients to keep whatever assets they had purchased with the grant money. At the end of a successful project, we would 'gift' the assets to the grantee. Yes, 'given' works well but 'gifted' sounds more rewarding for a job well done.
My current pet peeve is 'To be honest'. I seem to hear it tacked onto the end of everything these days. Why would I assume you are not telling the truth anyway? I still loathe '24/7'. It is useful shorthand but, Lord, is it overdone. 'I don't hear 'At the end of the day' enough to get annoyed but it obviously annoyed someone. I love this compilation clip. |
