There was a lengthy beta testing period. before 4 went live. It was well-publicised here, and Mr Goyal was, as always, very responsive to the problems and flaws that turned up during that process. The screams and howls of outrage (as exemplified by this thread title) that followed the release of 4.0 were not about errors or flaws, simply subjective complaints from people who had (a) not bothered to participate in the beta and (b) were upset that everything wasn't exactly the way it was before.
