The two are not directly connected to one and the other.

If the little one-liner script above gives you a copy of our public key - it is still jail broken (the key IS the "jail break").

And if you can run the script, then the dispatcher is still installed.

And if both are true after installing an Amazon update, then the bridge code must be installed. Since it was the bridge code that caused the above two things to be true.

Actually, a person could just re-name the file:
bridge
from the "Hotfix" package
to:
RUNME.sh

And use ;log runme to run it.

The old one does not give much feedback, so I'll attach a copy of the new one (already renamed) to this post.
This one has decent on-screen feedback of the things it finds and the tests it makes.

Broken will fix RSN.

Yes.
If you use the attachment I just made, it is the for-real, honest, exact, bridge code that will be in the next release.

If the key is missing, it will re-install it (when run as a RUNME.sh).
It will also test and install as required the other things that the bridge normally does.

You will have to touch the power button after it runs, because it leaves the report on-screen.

The screen would normally be reset by another part of the system, that isn't being run when you
;log runme
as a stand-alone script.

I.E: It will 'repair' whatever might be wrong.
(And the messages might have some funky spacing issues on the KOA2)

Thanks, I don't have a PW2.

That should not be a problem, when the bridge code normally runs, the framework (display handler) is not yet running.

But it is strange that it hasn't acted that way on the other models.
Hmm... Maybe I missed testing the 5.8.7 release.

And we have now learned that 5.9.2 on a PW3 is not the same as a 5.9.2 on a KOA2.

Thanks, I do not have a PW2 to test on.

It normally runs before the framework job is running.
So it should be visible until the framework starts, which should then restore the "re-starting" screen.

Or, at least that is the plan.

Thanks to information provided by AcidWeb and testing by fllc and radamo -
This thing now works.

When run as a ;log runme job, the screen will restore before you can read all of the messages.
(radamo recorded a video to read his )
But you should notice the screen clear and a bunch of message lines being written.

When it normally runs, during the first restart after a new image update, it should be on the screen longer (since the screen manager (framework) isn't running at that time).

Note:
If you have command line access, you can also run it from the command line.
Then the only problem is the screen doesn't get refreshed until you tap the power button or plug in the USB cord.

Note 2:
The next thing to be done to the bridge code is give it the ability to bridge ANY package that the user has installed (I.E: auto re-install everything).

Hey, it wasn't meant to be run "by hand" - It is part of the internal automation for our jail break.

When the Kindle boots, there are two splash screens shown.
The first is the "Please wait while your Kindle starts up..."
The second one is the one with the restart progress bar.

When run by the automation, the bridge messages use the screen between when the two splash screens are shown.

I does not stay on long enough to study the messages, but the screen being cleared and the messages bars appearing are a clear indication that the bridge code ran.

Which I consider is alright, people would complain if we slowed the start-up too much.
It currently uses about 2 seconds on the (very) slow original Kindle Touch.

What I could do is keep track if there is anything found that the user should know about -
If such a situation occurs, then I could trigger a sleep for long enough to read the messages.
Otherwise, the screen flash with a rapidly written set of lines and then continuing with the boot-up should be enough feedback.

Who wants to read a bunch of messages that say everything is alright?
(Or do as radamo did, take a video of the Kindle as it starts up with your camera or phone.)
If it does not stop long enough to read them, then nothing is wrong.

I have a feeling that it will be hard to satisfy everyone on this matter.

I will take suggestions on this subject in this thread.

It isn't there now, when it is, then people can send you private messages.
