New Kindle oasis on way?

Only 1 3G Oasis or 2 refurbished wifi's in the UK store as of this morning. John Lewis is out of the Merlot and Walnut as well.

People always complain the pace of ereader evolution has slowed and there isn't much of an upgrade to new models. cedsoft is right, Amazon tried to be innovate in some way, and yet some people just want to rubbish it and say oh but it doesn't have this that or the next thing.

Besides, not everyone wants a bigger screen, not everyone wants more fonts, not everyone wants the same thing. Some people like physical buttons, some like a design with a bigger bezel to hold onto, some people like things you personally don't.

I'd credit Kobo for trying to offer something different to Amazon with their increased customisation and bigger screens, but I'd also say the same for Amazon with the design of the Oasis. And if a new version is on the way, only Amazon know whether or not it is a good idea for them to just make small tweaks to the Oasis or give it up altogether.

Well, it seems to me, that eReaders are now at the mature product stage, The changes we will see in eReaders aren't going to be revolutionary, they are going to be evolutionary. There not only isn't a lot of demand for innovation, there probably isn't a lot of ROOM for innovation any more. At least, not enough to make major investments in R&D economically feasible.

There won't be many changes that make users feel they NEED to buy a new device. I suspect a dead battery, a broken screen, or a lost device will be the prime motivator for most new purchases. (My Sony PRS300, still works fine, and that's what 8-10 years old? It was the Sony ebook environment that caused me to stop using Sony readers, not those lovely devices themselves.)

Maybe not, but they might want to be able to adjust the font weight. And if you don't want more fonts, don't add any.

Which makes no statement about effects on revenue by its use.

That is like saying they make no profit from the sale of the Dash Button, which is "free" (as in: "Free Lunch") after the first press.

Well, yes, of course the PW is sold at cost in order to generate profit from book sales. Oasis buyers presumably also buy books, but, unlike the PW, I'm sure that Amazon make a hefty profit from the actual sale of the Oasis.

You're confused about the difference between revenue and profit. Amazon has no problem selling at a loss as that has been their model. What matters to them is revenue, market share and the long goal.

As for the PW I think you're talking about the launch of the original model. Amazon had to make up for r&d costs along with higher production costs. What was that five years ago? I doubt it costs as much to mass produce now.

I would buy an oasis if they made the cover optional and cut the price accordingly. I don't care if the battery life is halved.

I own both - and hate to contemplate doing without out either device.

I own a Paperwhite, a Voyage, and an Oasis -- I read exclusively on the Oasis. When I compare the Oasis screen with the other 2 models, to my aged eyes, the Oasis screen is clearly superior and well worth the (yes, exorbitant) price I paid for it. I can't imagine returning to the Voyage or Paperwhite.

Comparable Kobo and Kindle unit prices in Canada are very class, so I find it highly unlikely that Amazon is selling the PW at cost.

The Oasis physical design is an interesting alternative, but the pricing is absurd. Money for old rope.

In Amazon.es it looked as the image attached.

Some days ago, in the blue hole, it appears. Now, it doesn't.
In the banner it just changed the space betwen the models.

Seems Amazon is removing the Oasis from Kindle advertising banners and not just in the USA.
