I am considering buying a Kindle oasis, i am using a Kindle Voyage so far. Are they really different in terms of weight? Of couse, Voyage is quite light, but if I hold a Oasis, do I feel eroticly lighter?

I don't know about the "erotically" part of your question, but the Oasis is 130g compared to the 180g of the Voyage, so it is significantly lighter.

I used PW in the past, KV at the moment. When I am using KV on my bed with one hand, i still taste a little heavy. Of course I know about tech descriptions. But I just want to know actual feelings between them from guys.

I tried 2 Oasis devices which I returned because I couldn't deal with the shadows and cones of light from the side LEDs. I also prefer the Voyage design, the Origami cover for reading while eating and until recently because of better contrast. I just replaced my Voyage after 2 years because of a pinhole of light that developed that was distracting while reading. My new Voyage has a great screen, but I've noticed the contrast isn't quite as good as my original and closer to the contrast on the Oasis I had. I guess the truth is that there is more variation between individual devices than models. The Voyage is still my preference. It's light enough and I have never held any device using one hand. My arm gets tired holding it up for any length of time without holding anything.

Any idea why Amazon dumped the ambient light sensor on the Oasis? That's one feature I really like on my Voyage... I like the nightlight feature as well. I am sure some folks don't like the automatically adjusting backlight, but you can turn it off on the Voyage... not sure why they couldn't do that on the Oasis.
I haven't been able to find a store with an Oasis (well... best buy doesn't have them...) to play around with one and see how I feel about it. I was able to do that with the Voyage - I was comparing that to the paperwhite, and just loved the screen/feel of the Voyage, so went with that (upgraded from an kindle touch with the amazon case+light) |

I'm surprised at how many folks like the ambient light sensor on the Voyage. That's one missing feature on the Oasis that didn't bother me at all not to have.
As others will have mentioned, it's not just the lighter weight of the Oasis, but the distribution of that weight that makes it an ergonomic improvement. I absolutely love being able to read in landscape mode with the weight distributed along the bottom. My thumb rests on the page turn button. If not for landscape mode, I'm not sure I'd particular care for the Oasis. |

It annoys me that it was omitted on the Oasis, because for me it's one of the nicest features of the Voyage. If you don't like it on the Voyage, you can turn it off, but for those of us who do like it, it's a backward step to remove it.

Personally, for me, it is the darker text contrast that is the most important aspect to e-reading—it is here where the Voyage and older iterations of kindles win out for me. Unfortunately, the Oasis (at least in its first production cycle) has a bit of a more faded contrast, but this may have changed with different production cycles. If the Oasis brings out a darker text contrast and offers a vegan option for the cover, consider me in for the Oasis.
Personally, the weight issue is moot for me, as I have held and still hold heavier physical books for reading (keeps my arms nice and toned : ) I even have patients with joint conditions in their hands that find the heavier PW to be just fine—but I guess this boils down to everyone's lifestyle. I am more than happy with the battery life, but nothing compares to the battery life of my ol' kindle keyboard. |

One thing I don't understand at all is the folks that only read with the Oasis with it attached to the cover. I would absolutely go for a Voyage over the Oasis if that was my intention. It's also why the battery life of the Oasis device itself is a big factor if you assume you're mostly going to use it outside of the cover.

Perhaps some people prefer the physical page-turn buttons of the Oasis to the sensors of the Voyage.
