I thought you had a different device. You said flat out it did not work with your 10. There could be differences and probably are. And did you ever get your Fire 10 to work properly? Unless you have exact same device, please quit saying things won't work on other devices. Exact same means size, type, OS and firmware. Last year's Fire HD 10 does not equal this year's Fire HD8. Oh and I'm sorry you don't feel good. I know you want to be helpful and by all means if someone asks about your exact device please answer or answer that whatever didn't work on your specific device and tell us exactly which device you have. For example: did you know that the Paperwhite has at least 5 different firmwares depending on the generation and how many updates Amazon has made. I am not sure how many different operating systems the fires have had. (Not counting updates.) Yes, I do tend to get picky but only because we are usually talking 2 different devices. In one thread, I typed first 6 of your serial number, firmware, special offers or not and connect to a wall outlet so many times that my tablet started popping up those words in order. It saved several kindles from being bricked. An example of what I mean by different. Someone came in with the exact same device as mine. Well turns out it wasn't exact. After going back and forth for a bit, it turns out we were not seeing the same thing because his had not been updated to a later firmware. So that is why exacts are important. No Difference except screen size of 2" & bigger or more powerful battery ... OS is EXCATLY the same 5 Tho soon to be 5.4 but then ALL of Gen 5 models are to get that update also. AND ALL the Same Ports.
Yes mine got the Update with the On Deck & Page Flip [Hate Both] Then what ever else that was in the update Kick started it into behaving ![]() ![]() Since you asked me IF I owned it NO BUT my Neighbor does. I helped him get set up... giving me a Real Life chance to see if I wanted the 8". YES if I didn't have the 10.... ![]() So Do you have the 8" ??? Last I heard you say in another thread you only had the 1st Fire... Last edited by Barbara1955; 09-29-2016 at 07:44 PM. |

And that is exactly why I won't say something will or won't work with another device.
Yes, the only Fire I own is the first generation. I do own other kindles. Ok. Let's start over. Since as crane pointed out, there are several different mini USB to HDMI cables, which one didn't work with yours. Let's ask the person asking about the adapter, his exact OS and firmware since he has the brand new one. Katie, I just looked at Amazon. This thread is not about the fifth generation Fires. This is about the ones that just came out. And wow, the older one is $60 more than the new one. https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Fire-H.../dp/B00S5HFVGI https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018SZT3BK/ref=fs_ods_Giza Links to both. |

REALLY??? Why since as YOU say...
I know you want to be helpful and by all means if someone asks about your exact device please answer or answer that whatever didn't work on your specific device and tell us exactly which device you have. In other words You don't think I know what I an talking about So WHY are you asking me? Ask the Person that wanted the information What OS and Fire he has. YOU got buy the stuff & the 8 & see if it will work for yours. Cause really think You must know it all. |

But I also don't say that something didn't work without giving exacts. I didn't ask you originally but you came in with A) what a silly question and B)it didn't work for me. So yes, I will ask you to be more specific. Otherwise, the comments are not helpful and might actually be harmful. Another example would be your Alexa app works on Fires. Knowing which OS it actually worked on would have saved me from wasting my time clicking on the link. That is why I commented on which OS it worked on to save others the time. More information is always better. What you may not realize is this site is funded by views. That means specific information is better. Heck, I know nothing about jailbreaking kindles, but i do help over there by asking the simple questions. Oh and by looking for what was the common factor to several failures. Yes, I solved that one. So get used to me asking for more information. Or save me and you the headaches and be specific to start with. Oh and now you have me thinking about getting the new Fire. |

I am always very specific when trying to help. Ok you just confused me. Are you saying that it has HD capabilities or that it connects to a bigger screen? Just to be specific do you mean High Definition Multimedia Interface or High-Density Multichip Interconnect? Oh and by the way I would assume your Fire 10 has HDMI (the first one) since it is UD. I even said exactly which Fire that the Alexa app didn't work on and you came back with I didn't say which one. I said the First Generation Fire. There was only one of them. |

NO Fire 10 Does NOT have built in HDMI.
And the Alexa app Only works... Minimum Operating System: Android 4.4 Which my Phone is 4.6.6.1 & my 10" is 5+ SO it Only works on the Fires Depending on the OS. Not which Gen it is. I am Not telling you or anyone which Fire to buy or even to buy any. |

Back on topic, please. Private wrangling should be done by PM - if it's necessary to do it at all.

I still love my new Fire. It does have some lag issues but that's only when I'm trying to do multiple things at the same time. I've read a book and watched a tv show, sampled some audiobooks. Nothing really phases it. I took it to hospital today as I had to stay in for a small procedure and it connected to the free wifi without issues. I just need to test the Bluetooth now.

Actually I have experienced really bad lagging on my Fire HD 8 so I decided last night to remove most of my stuff. I now only have 5 kindle samples, 9 personal document ebooks, a handful of sideloaded videos and 1 audiobook on the device. It's definately moving smother and faster now. It's not a big deal not being able to have tons of stuff downloaded to it as it's rare it will leave my house but it is a bit disappointing, I guess it's the price of a cheap tablet. Sort of on-topic, as the same comments about TTS can be applied to the new Fire HD8. I haven't tried TTS on my original HD8 yet, as of course, the 6" is more portable. |
