Not that I care what anyone reads on, really; but it's nice to see less and less of the, "I'll read on LCD when they pry my dedicated eink device from my cold, dead fingers," mentality each time a question like this gets raised on MR. It wasn't so long ago a member would get run out of town on a rail for even suggesting they preferred to read on LCD. I, for one, I am glad to have lived long enough to witness the death of the, "serious readers will prefer dedicated eink" fallacy.

1. Brightness. On bright days, even the highest setting on my phone or tablet is not bright enough to read easily. 2. Because of 1, the battery drains far too fast compared to an e-ink reader. 3. Glare. E-Ink just has less glare. When outside or in public transport, these are often issues. When at home, I can read on a tablet quite easily. The battery lasts 10-12 hours, and I never have a reading session that long. |

My alternate reader now is my deactivated Samsung Galaxy SIII. I keep it in my pocket or purse for reading during short periods when my regular Samsng SIII is too bulky.

![]() To be fair, if someone would be able to create a 7 inch 4:3 tablet that combined the advantages of LCD (fast refresh, color, perfectly even when illuminated) with the advantages of e-ink (low power, reflective when used in bright light, less glare), my reaction would be: "GIMME!" And I wouldn't care if they classified that new screen as LCD/TFT or as e-ink. The device is just a tool, and I use the one most suited for which I want to do; for reading outside/public transport, that's the e-reader; for reading websites and PDFs, that's the tablet. |

I read almost full time on my Samsung Galaxy S5, and have read on my various earlier phones since about my S2, if I were to guess. I read on my Nook Simple Touch in rare situations where battery life matters (long plane flight) or sunlight is really strong (beach, outdoor patio), and I read on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S (7-inch) when a larger screen is important (technical reading, stuff with lots of figures, pdf). But my phone with its bazillion books is always with me, it's small and easy to handle, and I really can't imagine reading very much on anything else.
Oh yeah, and I read on various iPaq PDAs and a Samsung Galaxy Player before the phones... Last edited by sufue; 05-05-2016 at 12:46 PM. |

Another flip phone user here, so no, I don't read on my cell phone at all.
I scrimped on the cell phone and splurged on the ereader, because priorities ![]() |

I like to switch devices a lot, and I have to fit in reading into small intervals, so my phone certainly gets read on a lot. I can go weeks without using my Paperwhite, then find myself using it every day. Each device is good enough without being perfect, always some trade offs.

I read on Samsungs only these days. Brightness doesn't bother me one bit and for reading in pitch dark room I use blue light filter which gives sepia tone.

I use my phone for "stealth reading". When we take breaks in meetings, the sales guys always grab their phones and check their mail. Me? I grab my phone and read a couple of pages of a book. I only keep one book on my phone and typically I'll read for a few minutes a day and only for couple of days and then when I'm all engrossed in the book, I move to my Kindle and download a new book to the phone to sample.

As lazy as it sounds, I really cannot be bothered to read on my phone (a Samsung Galaxy S6). I've already spent time meticulously organising my Kindle Paperwhite -- I'm a stage where the collections are organised exactly as I want them, so truly, I just don't want to put in the effort to transfer my library across to my phone. I take a satchel bag with me wherever I go, so I'm never without my Kindle or a paper book, anyway.

I've taken to putting my current Kindle read on my phone and squeezing in reading moments in the course of the day at work. I used to carry my Kindle back and worth to work, but I've gotten so I'd prefer to only carry my phone with me. People probably thinking I'm checking email or Facebook or something... nope I'm just reading.
