So Who's Still Loving Their Kindle Voyage?

In the lighting conditions in which I do use it (low brightness at night, medium in the daytime, light off in full sunlight), I don't see "awful rainbow colours". What someone else might see in different circumstances is of no concern whatsoever to me. Nobody would ever use a Voyage at night with the screen on maximum brightness, so why on Earth does it matter what it looks like in such situations? If you actively go around looking for problems of course you're going to find them!

Here's mine, in a fairly dark room at level 10. If that's not good enough, too bad. This is how I use the device when I read in bed. I know that other people use a lower light level, but this is the level that I use. I am NOT going to post a picture at max brightness in a pitch black room, as that is not how I use it. If you use the device that way, then that level will be relevant to you. If you DON'T use it at max brightness in a pitch black room, why are you worried about what it looks like at that level?

Note that I also posted pictures of my Kobo Aura HD and my PW 3 in the same conditions. To my eyes, they all look great. Note that they are all slightly darker at the top of the screen than at the bottom, but I don't see "rainbows" on any of them.

On the second two photos in thumbnail, I see a bit of a blur at the bottom. When I clicked on the thumbnails, it disappeared.

I can't see the color shift in any of the 3 photos posted, just a little shadowing primarily at the bottom. I'm posting a picture comparing a Voyage that I returned that had the color shift (right) with my current Voyage (left) that has a very minimal color shift that I don't even notice when reading. I think the first Voyages produced had a bigger problem with this then later models which most people seem to be very happy with.

Mine looks considerably worse in the pitch black than your bad Voyage. And I bought it less than a month ago. Still, the gradient isn't really visible in my typical reading conditions (daylight or lamplight), and that's all I care about. I never read in the dark.

I'm very satisfied with the screen on my current Voyage and really thought the color shift was gone until I took a photo the other day because I wanted to show you a perfect screen.
There was a long running thread on this issue on the Amazon discussion boards and many people posted pictures of their perfect screens that clearly showed the color shift. They would comment that they could see it on the photo but not on the device. I think the bottom line here is that if you don't see it, it doesn't exist for you. I'm glad it no longer exists for me, but I'm also hoping it doesn't plague the new Oasis.

I had the light setting all the way up on both Voyages for the photo. On a lower light setting my bad Voyage looked considerably worse as well and since I read on a much lower setting I wasn't happy with it and returned it. My current one looks great even at a lower setting.

Thanks for sharing. Yes, the color shift is far less noticeable on your current Voyage. And that was the issue for me when I tried 7 of them over the span of a year. There were varying degrees of gradient, but all were noticeable and bothersome to me. I recall the earlier discussions of perfect screens, but when posted, the gradient was there. Yes, it's all about finding what works for you. That's why I kept trying different units. I wanted to find one that worked for me. I just got tired of being disappointed.

No apologies necessary. By the way I'm the one who doesn't see the color shift in your photos. Which photo is of the Voyage? I think you said you also photographed a PW3 and a Kobo.

That was quite a thread and often with a lot of anger among some of those posting. I hope this issue had been resolved with the Oasis and if you are planning on getting one, I hope you get one you are happy with the first time around!
