Buy a Voyage or wait for Voyage 2?

My answer to any "Should I buy now or wait for the next model?" question is to say that if you like the current model, and it meets your needs, then buy it. There's no sense waiting for something better that's "just around the corner" because there will always be something better "just around the corner".

You are right.
But it can be frustrating when you buy something and 5 days later a much more powerful model for the same money is announced.

Amazon let you return a Kindle up to 30 days after you buy it, so that's not a problem.

Things always break a day outside the warranty period, and new devices are always announced just outde the return period...

But in this case, the next model got announced for a rather expensive price and doesn't really give you anything special.

At this point I would wait to buy a new ereader in general.

The new processor/SOC should be hitting commercial ereaders sometime late this year or early next year, and will likely make ereaders much quicker and more power efficient. If the current ereader works I'd wait for the spec bump.

There is always a new processor/SOC coming at the end of the year or next year. It's always more powerful/more energy efficient/better/smaller... And often you wait till the end of the year/next year and then the promissed thing is either postponed or replaced with something new that'll come at the end of the year/next year!

So, if the current device works, and you are not itching for a new toy, it's always better to wait. But if the current device is broken, or that itch must be scratched, just look at wat is available now and make your choice from that.

Do you find the current speed and battery life of eInk devices to be inadequate for your needs? If not, there would seem to be little point in waiting. The two main users of battery power on eInk devices are the screen and the WiFi module, neither of which will benefit from a more power-efficient CPU. The CPU uses a relatively small percentage of the power.

A third main use is the front light which also does not depend on the CPU. However, updating the screen is a CPU task, actually the main CPU task, and it takes no power to hold the screen.

The CPU decides which eInk capsules need to have their state changed, certainly, but I strongly suspect that the power required to actually change the state - by applying an electric field to the eInk capsule to orient the particles within it with their white or black side showing - far outweighs that.
