Actually rather than getting a Bible from PG, I'd suggest checking the MobileRead library out and obtaining a copy from there.

Books in the MR library are far more likely to have had some TLC applied to them in conversion to epub format than ones obtained from PG.

I really don't know enough about the MR library to comment other than the few times I looked there, I didn't find anything I wanted to download. The PG site has a policy of every work being independently proofread (by the Distributed Proofreader's Group) twice, in succession, before they are made available for download. They are definitely not shovelware and stand head and shoulders above all but possibly publishers' own commercial libraries.

Last time I checked (a few years ago, but not many), Distributed Proofreaders was only one of the sources of PG, many books in PG don't come from DP (especially the older ones). And DP didn't provide epub versions, only TXT and, optionally, HTML, but the HTML is usually browser-oriented and sometimes it won't convert cleanly to epub.

I also have the HTML structure with links to following and previous chapters ready (I made the "Bible Framework" about 5 years back).

I can use these base files to work with...

But I have put the project on pause until I have more time,
Right now, HTML, and CSS take priority.

(The LRF version only took about 48 hours to make, with breaks and sleep is like a good week. I was unemployed back then).
I expect this to take a little more time.

There is little difference between a Bible, and a book.
A bible has a bit more links, and text, but is essentially just a book.
And should something need modification on mass scale, I use Notepad++ to multi-edit documents (I even can work with macros).

Calibre is capable of converting .lrf books to .epub directly. It's quite easy to use. Might save you a *lot* of time.
