Ugh. Updating to 3.19.5613 with my unregistered H20 results in a critical error. I need to decide if I want to fiddle around with this or just go ahead and register it. I'll sleep on it and decide in the morning.

Not sure where to get that version of Desktop; I tried the standard kobosetup.com but only got 3.18

Has anyone else had problems after using the new Kobo Tsukushi Mincho font in the ePub reader?

I've had no problems using it with KePubs, but with ePubs after I have switched to Kobo Tsukushi Mincho and then try to switch to other fonts I have various problems such as the font not changing, the book closing when I try to turn the page, and when I re-open the book it is still set to Kobo Tsukushi Mincho.

The problems go away after powering off and rebooting, until the next time I select Kobo Tsukushi Mincho in an ePub and then they start again.

What an extraordinary name for a font! I suppose that it's the creator's name ....

The level no longer changes instantly but visibly ramps up and down, which can make fine adjustments a little tricky. I'm honestly not sure if this is a feature or a bug.

Otherwise, the menus and general operation seems a bit snappier compared to 3.12.1.
How's the experience so far? I hated 3.18 so I went back to 3.12. Would you recommend updating to the latest FW? I'm also on the Aura.

This smells that there is coming a anti Mincho patch to disable that font at all ??

A certificate was my first thought which is why I checked the length. But something encoded, hashed or whatever fits.

Except the "bug" apparently only happens on devices that have been modified by third-party "hacks". Again, you can't expect Kobo to take that into account when designing their firmware.

No problems here. I was able to freely change fonts when reading a standard epub file.

Same here. Neither my Glo HD or Aura H2O are having problems.

GeoffR: Are there any trace logs in the .kobo directory?

I am having the same problem on my Glo.

IMHO, Kobo UD Kakugo font is a Japanese typeface and Kobo Tsukushi Mincho is a Chinese typeface. Probably that may be the reason for erratic behavior of Kobo, while using these fonts for English text. I could not test these fonts with Japanese or Chinese texts, as I don't have books in these languages.

If these fonts do not have a system usage, it may probably be removed using GeoffR's method suggested in post #64 of 'Index to the Metazoa firmware patches', for removing OpenDyslexic from device. I don't know what happens after removal.

Seems to be working fine, except for the quirk I mentioned. Everything is fast and responsive, and the reader seems to be stable. It's also nice finally having "Refresh every chapter" work as intended.

As for the two-finger swipe to adjust brightness, I discovered that you can still make small adjustments because it responds faster to small changes than big changes, so I'm inclined to think the visible ramping is a feature, although it's an odd one.

I am seeing the same problems on a Touch. But it did not happen with all epubs I tried, maybe depending on chapter size.
