First I think you are making way too much out of the quote I included in response to Issybird's post. Second while I agree a political argument would generally belong in the P&R forum I see that as more related to contemporary issues. I don't see how a book about say the American War for Independence could avoid discussing the motivations for why it happened and how it was conducted including political views. I trust the moderators, specifically WTSharpe, to judge that.

I do not have a problem with WT Sharpe changing typos (missing parenthesis). IMO. YMMV. |

Can't say for sure but I would think that a runoff would occur that would include enough categories to fill out the 12 months (with two already in before polling). I would suspect that going down the list of top vote totals the runoff would include all the ties required to fill all categories. That is filled in sequence until there is a tie among enough categories that not all in the tie can be added. I understand what you are probably asking about as in if there are two slots remaining and three categories at equal vote totals would first and second in the runoff fill the last two open slots? Or something like that?

Would the 3 that tied for 6th place automatically get in, and if so in what order? Or would all 6 categories have been placed in the run-off poll since there was no clear winner among the lot? |

Since talking about content in a specific book, especially one the book club is discussing, it would have a connection to the site's theme and would therefore be allowed. Certainly if people went off-topic or started proselytizing it would be squashed but as long as it is relevant to the book being discussed it should be OK. |

If six books are clear winners, three are tied for seventh, and two are tied for tenth, the six books plus the three tied for seventh shall fill nine of the ten slots. The two tied for tenth shall be entered into a runoff vote in which I shall not participate except in case of a tie. After ten books are chosen, their rank among each other is moot.

Late in for my vote. Looking at the top votes, I can't say I'm surprised to see Science Fiction, Fantasy, Mystery and Thriller (etc) in the top 4 positions.
Looks like Patricia Clark is fairly safe for the final list, but Classics is still on the edge. But we've still go a ways to go. I too think War is a great theme - although I'm thinking more fiction than non-fiction. However, I decided against that theme in favour of Historical Fiction. As an exercise I voted for the 10 categories I would like to see rather than just voting for everything that appealed. |

In fact, as of right now the run-off would be between Biographies and Award Winners for the last spot. Last edited by Nyssa; 08-09-2015 at 06:44 AM. |

As of right now, with 38 voters and just under 3 days remaining, these are the leading categories and there is no need for a run-off vote if this stands.
• Science Fiction 31 • Fantasy 24 • Mystery 19 • Thriller, Suspense & Crime 18 • Patricia Clarke Memorial Library 16 • Science 16 • Humor 15 • History 14 • Award Winners (fiction) 13 • Classics 13 There are 5 categories that have 12 votes and could easily be moved into a slot or force a run-off. • Biography and Memoirs • Horror • Our Favo(u)rite Books • Short Stories (same author) • War |
