Bookmarkable, easy to remember too.
Hasn't changed in a long, long time.

I believe you use linux, though, so I would recommend simply installing through winetricks, which now downloads the latest version of K4PC.

The latest Windows 10 update lost my start menu. I got some help via Microsift Support and they tried to set up a new user and transfer over my settings etc but it's all gone wrong so now my Surface 3 is a useless pile of junk. I am really regretting buying it.

I'm in hospital for a procedure tomorrow and work full time so no idea what to do or when to try and do it.

Can you not do a restore to the point prior to which the update was applied?

That was the first thing I tried but it didn't work. I've had three separate sessions with MS support but basically they couldn't restore my start menu and they made such a mess of my surface that I felt a system restore was the cleanest option since I had to set up a new user anyway.

If it happens again I seriously think I'll revert and stay on 8. How are you supposed to access programs, especially the apps, without a start menu.

Your start menu stopped working so you are thinking of reverting to Windows 8.
Something a little odd there...

What's so funny about wanting a working PC? I'm glad you find find amusement in my elevated stress levels. I never wanted Windows 8, what I want is a stable and working Windows 10 PC that doesn't need to be factory reset every couple of months.

I bought my Surface 3 in August, this is my second factory reset in four months.

No. After the Windows update last night I got a "critical error your start menu isn't working, we will attempt to fix it next time you log on" message. Needless to say it didn't get fixed.

I lost all access to programs, I may have been able to access the desktop shortcuts but I didn't try, but any apps and the program list was inaccessible.

Microsoft Supports only answer is to create a new user and delete the old one, but the first attempt failed and the second one made such a hash of it I couldn't work out what had backed up or not and my storage use was too high which is why I decided to make a clean restart. I should have done it in the first place, I wasted 6 hours with MS support, and even now the windows store won't open so I can't download any apps.

There is nothing funny about wanting a working PC.

But last I heard, Windows 8 had NO start menu, so how is downgrading going to fix anything?

There is something I would have tried is to reinstall the Windows 10 update to the new version in case that fixes what got broken.

My Surface Pro 2 has not had any of these sorts of issues with Windows 10.

I was under the impression Windows 8 works without a start menu, I.e you can access apps and programs.

Windows 10 DOES NOT work without a start menu. I know that from my brief but tramatic experience.

Of course if anyone knows how to use Windows 10 without access to apps or programs I would very much like to hear from them.

Considering it was the latest update that triggered the critical error on my Surface 3 I figured I was already on the latest version.

And four MS 'technicians' couldn't fix it either. Although I'm not actually sure what that proves.

You are on the latest version. But maybe another install can fix what's broken.
