If it has not been mentioned yet, you must absolutely read Tolkien's The Hobbit and then The Lord of the Rings as those are the cornerstone of fantasy literature

VIE, Vance Integral Editions --- a friend of mine has a set and I envy him that. He's one of my favourite authors, and I'm probably going to start trying to get a set, purchasing them as I go to re-read my favourites (after I finish my Manly Wade Wellman collection).

I read those back when Ace AND Ballantine had them out!

Too, I own Anniversary Editions of 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit' - put out somewhere around 1979 or so.
