Markdown on a Brand-New Cookbook/Devotional.

I faced a conundrum in posting this ebook: post on the Cookbooks thread or post on the Christian Interest thread. The ebook felicitously could be placed in either one. It seemed to me that the ebook stood out more as a cookbook than as a religious tome. I'm posting it on the basis of the strength that I perceive that it has as a cookbook.

The book seems to be a combination of devotional and breakfast food cookbook. A devotion appears immediately before each recipe, it seems. If religion (or the author's religion) is not your "thing," I'm sure that it would be easy enough to skip the religious parts.

One thing of which I'm certain: the photos (they're color) of the finished dishes are fantastic!

The book has great ratings, there just aren't that many of them. This is no doubt due to the fact that the title is brand new, having been published just last year (2014).

Faith, Hope, Love, and a Whisk: Breakfast with the Savior. By Tori Winkelman. Rated 4 1/2 stars, but from only 7 reviews at the present moment. Print list price $29.99; digital price $9.99; Kindle price now $2.99. Ambasssador International, 160 pages (hardcover). http://www.amazon.com/Faith-Hope-Lov...ith+the+Savior.

Book Description
Some of my fondest childhood memories come from sitting around the kitchen table with my family. Each day, after sitting down at the table, my dad would bless the food, and then we would talk, laugh, and tell stories about our day while enjoying the beautiful meal my mom had prepared. It was something so simple; but it drew our family closer together. Faith, Hope, Love, and a Whisk: Breakfast With the Savior combines my two passions in life: God’s Word and cooking. It is designed to bring you closer to the Lord and to bring your family around the kitchen table. It is a different type of devotional, one you can read while you are making breakfast or brunch for your family and friends. Inside, you’ll find thirty home-style recipes that put a spin on the classic breakfasts that I grew up enjoying. The devotionals I have written are for women who want to develop a deeper relationship with Jesus and live their life for Him. Everything we do, we do for the Lord, even cooking! So start your morning with Jesus. When you open up this cookbook to find a breakfast recipe, read the devotional while you’re cooking, and spend time in prayer with the Savior.

Thanks. I hadn't caught that. Kinda strange; wonder why . . . .

By "reading app" I suppose that you mean/include the Kindle Cloud Reader. At any rate, it does work fine.

Or, pull it into an editor and strip out the religious parts.

That might be difficult, as there is no "download" option on this one.

It should works in these apps:

Kindle for Windows 8
Kindle Cloud Reader
Kindle for Android Phones
Kindle for Android Tablets
Kindle for iPad

Plus the Fire Phone and these tablets:

Kindle Fire HDX 8.9''
Kindle Fire HDX
Kindle Fire HD(2nd Generation)
Kindle Fire HD 8.9"
Kindle Fire HD(1st Generation)
Kindle Fire(2nd Generation)
Kindle Fire(1st Generation)

Kindle for PC automatically downloaded the books into a Documents\MyKindle directory (or something similar). Then looks for the ASIN number (which is the filename). De-DRM it, and Bob's your uncle.

You've done that with this book (or another tablet only title)?

Because others have reported that isn't an option for the format on these....

Not specifically with that book. My comment was in general about Kindle books on the PC.

Yes, those are books with azw/azw3 formats and download options for those with physical kindles.

the tablet only books tend to resist such methods (even if they can be downloaded).

Thanks for this and your previous posts on this thread the last couple of days. I appreciate the expertise that Mobilereaders like you have. Mobilereaders have a vast repository of knowledge (and maybe some wisdom. ha), and it is so helpful to plebes like me who are trying to get "the hang" of things of the ebook orb.

Highly-Rated Baking Cookbook--Now Just $1.99.

The book is rated 3.93, from 42 reviews, at Goodreads.

The Messy Baker: More Than 75 Delicious Recipes from a Real Kitchen. By Charmian Christie. Rated 5 stars, but from only 8 reviews at the present moment. Print list price $24.99; digital list price $24.99; regular digital price $12.99; Kindle price now $1.99. Rodale, publisher. 256 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Messy-Baker-De...a+Real+Kitchen.

Book Description
Since when did every cookie on the plate have to be just like the next? Or each layer of cake exactly the same height? Each piecrust an impeccable work of art and encircled by stunningly perfect pastry leaves? To the uninitiated, all that fastidious, spotless baking is intimidating, not to mention exhausting. The Messy Baker celebrates baking as it happens in the real world—sweet, messy, fun, not always gorgeous, but a way to show love. Which doesn't make it any less delicious; to the contrary, Charmian's flavor combinations rise far above the ordinary. Why have a raspberry galette when you can enjoy a raspberry-rhubarb galette with drippy, unctuous walnut frangipane? Or brie and walnut whisky tart? All without the rigid perfectionism or complicated instructions of other gourmet cookbooks.

Charmian's warm, irreverent voice brings the fun back into baking at a time when home cooks—pulled from pillar to post by jobs and errands—need to have fun.
The Messy Baker is a full service book that not only guides the reader through simple, delicious recipes, but is also there to help out when things wrong. For anyone who has given up in frustration when that crust has collapsed or the frosting smears, Christie's warm, practical advice is here to rescue even the worst disaster and inspire bakers to try their next recipe.

Food, Folklore, and Art of Lowcountry Cooking: A Celebration of the Foods, History, and Romance Handed Down from England, Africa, the Caribbean, France, Germany, and Scotland By Joseph Dabney is 99 cents at Barnes & Noble. Currently $16.49 for the Kindle.

The perfect gift for Southerners, history lovers, and foodies alike.

Discover the secrets of one of the most mysterious, romantic regions in the South: the Lowcountry. James Beard Cookbook of the Year Award-winning author Joe Dabney produces another gem with this comprehensive celebration of Lowcountry cooking. Packed with history, authoritative folklore, photographs, and fascinating sidebars, Dabney takes readers on a tour of the Coastal Plain, including Charleston, Savannah, and Beaufort, the rice plantations, and the sea islands.

Dabney, author of James Beard Cookbook of the Year Smokehouse Ham, Spoon Bread, and Scuppernong Wine, brings together all the elements that make the South Carolina and Georgia Low Country a distinctive region—the food, history, and cultures. Those familiar with Southern food will find favorites such as grits, Hoppin' John, gumbo, and dumplings. Recipes from famous chefs, like Matt and Ted Lee's Boiled Peanuts, are also featured.

I haven't looked at it yet, but the Amazon comments indicate that this is a cookbook with a bunch of history and anecdotes thrown in.

Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit! (an expression made famous by Paula Deen around that thar Savannah, Georgia way).

What a great find. Thanks for letting us know about it.

Nowadays I pretty much ignore B&N, Kobo, Google Play, iTunes, et al. and just look for Kindle mobi bargains. I would miss out on some great deals, like this one, if not for posts like yours.
