Thanks JS. Did you mean only the basic Kindle was 800X600? (The PW and Voyage being higher.) Sounds like a plan. Think the Kindle will drop back to $49 maybe the day after Xmas or New Years? Will Aura ever go any lower than $99?
I have no idea if the Kindle will drop back to $49. If you miss the price it's at now, you'll pay $79 for it. I don't think the Kobo Aura will drop any lower then $99. $99 is a good price as is.

If you want another cheap unit you might want to look at the BOOX Classic as described in our wiki. Only 69 Euros. It has a 1024 × 758 px 212 ppi Pearl screen.

That's about $84 without shipping. The Kobo Aura is still a better value (touch and front light) and we know what version RMDSK is being used.

Perhaps but the classic is really just a stripped down C65 without a front light and without audio. Otherwise it is a C65 with full multiple format support and other goodies. It runs an early 2.x version of Android.

Shipping to the US is 31.53 euros for a grand total of 87.62 euros which is roughly $107.60. That's even more expensive then the Kobo Aura that's on sale now for $99.

The multiple format support is appealing.
